Trains,Boats and Planes
Mar. 22nd, 2012 09:06 amYesterday I took a short excursion to Maidstone to do a job. Picked up a few very cheap ex library paperbacks for ten pence each. Had a pint in the Society Rooms, from the Wetherspoons beer festival, a complex frothy pint of Greene King Libertine (5.0 % ABV).
I fell asleep mid evening about 8 pm and did not wake up till near ten, and I missed a text from Phil to say that Barry , a friend of Spot, and an ex-railwayman, was up at the pub, and wanted to meet me. We often discuss things on Facebook.
Cousin got the same message and said that he is going up, so I followed. Barry (the Train) lives in Sittingbourne, and so, coming to the Dover Castle in the evening is a big commitment. You see, unlike Brighton and thirty miles around it, the bus service here is fucking shite. So he has to rely on the rail services after about seven in the evening. Mind you , he was a former railway employee and hence gets his journeys free.
Whilst in this seminal location known by its initials as the DCI (hello hello) , we chatted about loads of different subjects, including long haul plane flights, and what floated our boats when it came to women. Well, I had to try and get the subject of trains, boats and planes into the blog title somehow, and that it was a song composed by Burt Bacharach and sung by Dionne Warwicke. . Barry the Train is a really nice guy, and very affable. Thanks Barry, for a great evening.
