I was right hacked of on Friday , a few hour ago, that is, as i was waiting at the bus stop in Sheerness for over half an hour before it turned up. It was pissing down with rain and it was getting cold and at a quarter to six in the evening it finally turned up. The last bus to Sittingbourne.

I had been doing the scanning job for Superdrug, and i do this one and one in Sittingbourne.

Then when i arrive in Sittingbourne i had late trains to contend with. So I popped into Wetherspoons and had a curry meal washed down with a couple of beers, the lovely Bruery Oatmeal Stout (5.9  % ABV), a craft beer from the USA. I followed that with a stiff Hendricks Gin with tonic water and a slice of cucumber in it.

Anyway, the weekend will be one of total relaxation and listening to all those recent CD finds.

If the weekend is sunny i might even venture to Faversham and visit Spoons like i did on Friday with pint and pipe out in the smoking area.

Some late night listening as i had a power nap when i got back home. so i decided to start with the Bebel Gilberto CD "Tanto Tempo" , lovely bossa grooves, and then the Astor Piazzolla CD "La Comorra" , the tango set alight by this imitable bandoneon  player.  Quality!

Listening to some more grooves today as well as a short trip to Faversham (if it doesn't rain). First was this live album from  Kent jazz funker James Taylor and his Quartet doing Hammond organ led grooves of Green Onions, Whole Lotta Love and their own compositions.

Currently listening to this CD by saxophonist John Harle on the classical Argo label. Genre busting music with Elvis Costello, Andy Sheppard and the Balanescu Quartet.

The Three Raves has anonymous lyrics from a Tudor poet. , Rosie Blood  (Sederunt) is fleshed out on the bones of 12 th century polyphony by composer Perotin, and Mistress  Mine, which features the voice of Elvis Costello , was composed by Harle for a production of a  Shakespeare play , Twelfth Night , in 1994. Other lyrics used are from texts by French artist Guillame de Machaut. on the Rosie Blood tracks.

Andy Sheppard and Harle bang it out in a short jazz  improvisation as well , since they play together in the John Harle Band, that is squarely on the jazz tip.Plus he is also Snr. Professor  at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Awesome music and a great find!

So now that it is March i have been like the March hare, springing off too quickly to a non-extant beer festival!  I got the dates wrong. The beer festival at Wetherspoons is not till the end of the month. From 29th March till April 13th.

Having said that, had a pint of the I Wantsum Raving Wolf ale (%.9 % ABV) in the Spoons in Faversham. Sold some books for a five and popped into a supermarket to get some salad stuff.

Did pick up a paperback for thirty five pence from a chazzer.

So after lunch back to listening to the CD's.

Well, watched the footie on TV - Liverpool winning 3 - 0 against Southampton. So now back to the listeing of those CD's from my recent shop visits.

First was this cool album from Rumer, and she does sound a bit like Karen Carpenter  with a bit of Laura Nyro and a hint of Dusty. All self-penned stuff from her.

Next is Lily's second album - it's not bad but i doubt i would keep this one.

lilall

Next up this one, a real keeper as much as his first album - solid SOUL music with a modern twist.

I hate using Pay Pal for my Discogs site and i prefer people order records or CD's etc by bank transfer, cheque ( i know old fashioned) or postal order. PayPal charge five per cent  anyway, and  disputes hardly go in the seller's favour. I have a dispute now in which i knew i posted the singles two weeks ago to an address in London and that they said it never arrived. Well sorry for that but i am not responsible for the post office and i do state on the site that no refunds on lost items due to postal problems , refunds only if the item is damaged in any way and i have proof of it blah blah blah . Now they have opened a dispute on me!

I think quite positively , i reckon,  they are trying it on. So either i go back to the NO PAY PAL please notice or send everything automatically by special delivery. That will not make some punters happy when they want a quid LP by have to pay almost six quid in postal rates.
