Brazil 2014: Our lives are worth more than football!

By court order, the police evicted 2000 residents from their homes in the area near the Marcana Stadium where the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil this summer. Justifying the action as the “work of modernization” and necessary for “safety measures”, the evictions left thousands of men, women, and children homeless. We sign this petition to show our support to the evicted families.
We ask the Mayor of Rio Eduardo Paes, the Governor Luiz Fernando de Souza, (Pezão) and the FIFA president Joseph S. Blatter to stop this shame

Disgusting. Typical how poor people are treated. I have signed the petition anyway.

Well it looks like it is going to be another hot humid day. Just had breakfast and took out some stale bread for the birds. Feel sticky on the skin, and there is a slight breeze, but midday i guess it will be boiling. So here is the perfect summer song for the morning, The Isley Brothers and Summer Breeze.

Enjoy.

This is so totally weird and awesome. Frank Sidebottom ,a novelty act from Manchester, meeting Stanley Unwin on a programme from 1985, with a young green uncertain Tony Slattery. Priceless.

Yeah weird huh?  And now there is fictionalized biopic film called Frank played by Michael Fassbender. Cannot see how an American actor can do a Mancunian accent m'lad.

Darian Leader "Introducing Lacan" (Icon Book)

You would think that an introduction to Lacan would be written with a non-specialist reader in mind. That is what i hoped for this book.

I'm afraid that this introduction makes no such concession - it fairly quickly lapses into unnecessarily impenetrable terminology. As it is written by a paid-up Lacanian, one can't help but wonder whether or not there's something to the oft-repeated accusation that Lacanian ideas lack precision, are pseudo-profound, and hide this fact behind a jargon habit.

I understood less than half of this book and I consider myself to be reasonably intelligent and reasonably well educated. If you already understand the language of psychoanalysis this might work for you, but you would probably want more than a picture book...graphics aside.
