Been watching a DVD of Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors followed by watching Utopia on the tablet.

Now it is time to sleep.

Recently i was re-reading Arthur C Clarke's short story, The Sentinel, which years later became the basis for the film and novel 2001 A Space Odyssey. The ape like creatures at the beginning of the novel looked up at the stars, wondering much like us i guess, is their life out there in the universe. Then digging out a couple of early 70's prog rock albums by Genesis before they became , IMHO, substandard, with the leaving of Peter Gabriel and the emergence of Phil Collins, a track from Foxtrot , which although not related to the Clarke novel or short story, yet one of my favourite tracks, is called Watcher Of The Skies.

Enjoy.

Well after a dull and humid morning the sun is now out and i am stuck in an Office.
I walked into Sittingbourne again and shirtless until i reached the bottom end of East Street.
Tegan, my tutor, is not around, so i might just go early now that it is scorchingly hot outside. I can always do this online at home anyway.

A little bit shocked to her that Rik Mayall has past away today. he was formative in the alternative comedy of the eighties. A few other LJ people have put videos of him in action in both The Young Ones and his spot in Black Adder.

Here is the BBC News link to his death at the age of 56 -

Here is a teaser, a quiz if you like. Consider these fictional characters and the actors who played them. What is the next in the order given?

1/ Nicky Hutchinson
2/ DI Alec Hardy
3/ Danny in "Party Animals"
4/ ???

So which fictional character comes forth? What  connects all four?

No googling.

So as a homage to Rik Mayall here is the classic Young Ones University Challenge episode -

Enjoy.

After posting that Young Ones clip here is something else i have found featuring a younger Stephen Fry and John Simpson in a pro celeb team against Keble College Oxford from 1992.

Infact, this is the edition of University Challenge that eventually led to its revival on the BBC. Here Bamber Gascoigne is back as quizmaster for a special show broadcast as part of the Granadaland theme night on BBC2 (28 December 1992). A team from Keble College Oxford, winners of the last ITV version of the show, take on a "celebrity" team of former winners: Alistair Little, John Simpson, Stephen Fry and Charles Moore.

Cool.
