I knew it was going to be one of those days when -

1/ You forget to bring your mobile phone.
2. You forget to bring your camera
3/ It rains so hard in one of the towns that it puts you off going elsewhere.

So with that in mind i did my shop in Folkstone, which was a shoe repair shop, before the deluge, and then had to hang around under shelter for an hour before it stopped. I then decided that Hythe and New Romney can be done on the day i do the cat rehousing project visit.

Back in Canterbury upon my return it was quite sunny if cold. I popped into Waterstones and found three books for a quid each , and treated myself to the current issue of The Wire magazine.

I use to read the magazine regularly each month as it was my portal into jazz, improv. avant garde stuff, electronica, and modern classical and all points in between.

At the Westgate Inn i had a lovely pint of Exmoor Beast (5.4 % ABV).

The boos found today are -

The Alice Walker book was fifty pence in Faversahm, I was really happy to find the book on Pam Grier. It was Quenton Tarantino who relaunched her acting carrer since the seventies. Might do a funky music blog later.

In The Wire mag there is a section called Invisible Jukebox in which artists, musicians, composers etc. are given blind hearings of tracks which they have to comment on. This month it is John Carpenter's turn. He has a new album out as well as being a famous film director, he also makes his own music. Here is a track from the new album called Vortex.

The album is called Lost Themes and is also reviewed in the same magazine. This is one of the reasons i love The Wire and ir is always a joy to read.

Found this hour long John Carpenter and Alan Howarth  movie music mix on You Tube as well.

You may not know the name Alan Howarth, but you'll surely have heard his music before. He's been involved with the sound design of movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Poltergeist and all of the Star Trek movies. Some of his finest work, though, has come in collaboration with John Carpenter, whose soundtrack to Escape from New York has been beloved, rinsed and re-edited by countless DJs. Renowned for his murky and unstable atmospheres, Howarth's work is perfect for Halloween time.

Howarth made this mix for electronic music magazine Resident Advisor's Halloween podcas
