Hempstead Valley and Canterbury Visits
Apr. 14th, 2015 04:00 pmCatching up with some visits. I completed one at the Hempstead Valley Shopping Centro for one of my companies, that another body beautiful visit from the company that was founded by Anita Roddick. So, after getting the advice and some samples, i purchased some lovely shower gel from them. I then caught the bus back from there to Rainham station, and got out at Faversham to catch the bus to Canterbury
This is where i am at the moment, as i will be doing a few visits inside Fenwicks department store. Mostly testing attitude and knowledge of staff , and nuying small items up to two quid as proof of visit, except for one which is a purchase and refund.
On and finally, i have received the money from both the R and L company - almost a week and a half late, but my dogged determination made sure that i was not going to lose out. Now all it needs is for the Horsham company to send my the cheque on Thursday for the job i did for them end of February.

Lev Loseff "Joseph Brodsky : A Literary Life" (Yale University Press)

How did a boy from war-torn Leningrad, who later found himself locked in a filthy Soviet-era prison train, wind up as both a Nobel laureate and America's Poet Laureate, as well, before finally ending life in the cemetery of the centuries-old St. Michael's in Venice. That life spanned only 55 years and yet Joseph Brodsky accomplished so much in his tumultuous half century on the planet.
Loseff, a poet himself and a friend of Brodsky's for many years, interweaves conventional biographical details about the writer (his childhood, his exile, his life as an emigre in America) with analyses of poems that were written at the time of these details, and, more interestingly, books Brodsky read throughout his life. Apart from the more obvious references to Mandelshtam, Akhmatova, Tsvetaeva, Pushkin and Derzhavin that leap off the page when reading Brodsky's poetry, Loseff underlines the dialogue between his work and those of lesser know Russian and important English and American writers such as Auden, Frost and the Metaphysical poets of the 17th-century.
Young adults today, facing a rapidly changing global community, would do well to learn from Brodsky's life. Lev Loseff, a longtime has done a great job of capturing key scenes that light up connections between the poet's words, his life and the miracle of living on this crazy planet. Even if you're initially intimidated by the Yale University Press imprint and the idea of reading a "literary" biography--don't be! This is a compelling "read" about a poet we all should celebrate.
This biography is a must for all those wanting to be given an insight into the life and times of one of the most famous and important Russian (and international) poets of the last century and the workings of the poetic and artistic mind.
Brodsky was an excellent poet writing in Russian, and an excellent essayist in English and a truly great artist of the written word.
