East Kent Visits
Jan. 14th, 2016 07:31 pmIt has been a fairly busy day today, despite it being bloody chilly and windy outside. I did three visits in Folkestone, New Romney Hythe, all coastal towns bearing the full brunt of the rapacious wind.
However, i did pick up a few interesting items, the best being a Devil's Dictionary published by Folio Society. It may seem that it is full of arcane black magic but it is not.
.
In fact it is a satirical dictionary written by American journalist and author Ambrose Bierce. Originally published in 1906 as The Cynic's Word Book, it features Bierce's witty and often ironic spin on many common English words. Retitled in 1911, it has been followed by numerous "unabridged" versions compiled after Bierce's death, which include definitions absent from earlier editions. I was really hoping it would be a compendium of demonic spells and castings. Like Phoebe , i am drawn to the DARK side.
I found this little tome in New Romney for a fiver. It sells on Ebay for around twenty quid. So you know what i am going to do , perhaps.
Last night, after reading some more about Charmed , i re watched Season 4 , in which the remaining sisters deal with the aftermath of Prue's death and the fact they discover a lost sister in Paige. Still tears me up, but that is good, i love these characters, as much as i love the Buffy characters, except Xander!
I have been reading a book by John Gray , "Straw Dogs" , which i have found equally frustrating, and totally angry at his nihilistic outlook as a philosopher.. I have often chucked the book in disgust, Review later.
So, guys, all the visits done today, and thus , time for a bit of relaxing in a pub in Canterbury. I might even have the very hot Dragon curry.
I shall be back later.
