When I woke up this morning I was faced with the dichotomy of which pill to take, be it the red one or the blue one that would determine the reality we are in, a pandemic or not, and whether it is deterministic or do we have free will. I then uttered some expletive, put on some music, and had my first coffee of the day.

The weather has also been a fluctuating amplitude of possibilities between sunshine and cloudiness. I guess there was some sympathetic harmony with my mood as well. A variation on a theme for example. That theme which meandered through fields of morbidity via the soundscapes of Chris Meloche and the open tundra of Sylvia Hallett's improvisational sparks of sheer delight. Further evocations through the synaesthetic aspect of music emerged with bright pastoralism of Vaughan Wiliams and Delius tempered by the sludgy grunge of Tricky. Music massages all moods and so it did today.

(What the eff has been on today you are asking?)

Just intoxication with life and music I would say.

June 1992 the Wire in its 100th issue selected the hundred most important recordings of the 20th century. One of them which I was listening to just now is the Lenny Kaye compilation of psych-rock called Nuggets.

Here is one of the gems.

Amboy Dukes - Baby Please Don't Go

Also in the top 100 is Anton Webern's Complete Works conducted by Boulez.

Anton Webern - Passacaglia For Orchestra Op.1

Also, on that list is Boulez's interpretation of the Stravinsky ballets. There is also Bartok's own recording of his piano music available on Hungaraton records.

Béla Bartók - Rumanian Folk Dances

Charlie Patton - High Water Everywhere

From the album "Founder Of The Delta Blues"

Enjoy

Bo Diddley - The Great Grandfather

From the LP "Go Bo Diddley" (Checker)

Last post of this tonight - rest in the week.

The Kingsmen - Louie Louie

The Kinks - See My Friends

James Brown- Papa's Got A Brand New Bag

Of course, I have the 4CD Star Time box set of the best funky soul from him.

Booker T and The MG's - Green Onions

Scott Walker - Winter Night

It seems appropriate to end on this classic easy listening pop album - in fact, all four of these numbered Scott albums are great.

Throughout the week I will be covering more pop, rock, jazz, classical, avant-garde and so on - yep and  itdoes include the Stones, Beatles and Elvis.

Enjoy.
