Philip Glass - Music in 12 Parts
Aug. 21st, 2020 06:44 amHow about some classical minimalism for your morning.
Philip Glass: The Philip Glass Ensemble – Music In Twelve Parts CD1
1 Part 1
2 Part 2
3 Part 3
This is just the first three sections as the whole recording is four hours long. Available now on 4 CD's from its vinyl version of 1974. As a composition leading to the understanding of Glass alone, Twelve Parts is fundamental, and as a key to reading subsequent developments in classical and electronic (pop-ish) music , it is sine qua non.
And yes, it is one of the most important recordings of the 20th century as defined by Wire magazine.

Enjoy

Word Of The Day
Aug. 21st, 2020 07:25 amTodays word is another piece of Latin -
sine qua non
NOUN
an essential condition; a thing that is absolutely necessary.
as in "grammar and usage are the sine qua non of language teaching and learning"
Such as the full 4 hour work of the Philip Glass piece "Twelve Parts" or the complete Impulse recordings of John Coltrane.

Another recording I forgot to include on the 100 Most Important Recordings of the 20th Century via Wire magazine is this live concert recorded on the Beatles Apple label from 1972.
Ravi Shankar & Ali Akbar Khan in concert 1972
01 - Raga - Hem Bihag
02 - Raga - Manj Khamaj
03 - Raga - Sindhi Bhairavi

Pubs and Food
Aug. 21st, 2020 11:52 amJust done a telephone call mystery shop and tomorrow some turf accountant visits in Sheerness and Chatham.
Today the weather is a blustery yet dry 23 C with intermittent sunshine.
I may pop into town this afternoon or do so in the morning.
Yesterday had a good few beers with Phil at my local.

Phil tapping away.

Phil took a sneaky pic of me.
Today I will be having a hot spicy beef curry at home.

The Friday Five
Aug. 21st, 2020 07:05 pm1. Do you have a favorite insect (of the bug variety, of course)?
2. Which insect could you happily do without seeing for a good long time?
3. Which insect do you think is of the most benefit to us?
4. Have you had to deal with an insect invasion yet this season (or this past summer for our friends in the other hemisphere)?
5. Would you eat insects?
