Tuesday Thoughts
Dec. 1st, 2020 06:33 pmWell, we had some sunshine today with blue skies but damn cold at around 7C most of the day. So I took advantage of the sunny day by doing my Medway visit today. A quick covert shop to the land of pound bargains. Strood is at the far end of the Medway conurbation, just across the Medway Bridge from Rochester.
Retail is still in the doldrums - well it has been that way before the pandemic. Debenhams, which has been trading since 1778 is the latest to go. A day after the failure of Arcadia that owns Top Man, Dorothy Perkins, Burtons, Miss Selfridge and Wallis. Debenhams had many of these Arcadia concessions within their department stores and has already been in administration. So once again the High Street will be bleaker as more people purchase online.
Next and M&S still seem to be doing well though.
So, after tomorrow, more shops will be able to open again. So that means book shops, and hopefully charity shops, as well as the standard fashion stores, except for pubs esp. here in Kent. Either way, I am feeling more positive.
I need to get some decent Xmas card anyway unless Xmas is cancelled like it was back in the 17th century! Oh yeah, for real. Blame the Puritans for that!!
