Which Democrat do you prefer, Hilary or Bernie?
(or if not politics - favourite TV host?)
What is the first thing you do when you arrive home?
Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits?

Twilight Zone was better done but I enjoy both.

Date: 2016-05-08 04:08 am (UTC)Hillary, for her general "can-do" approach to issues/problems. However, I fear she is vulnerable on the email-server thing; worse, alas, is her hauteur -- her sense of political entitlement.
Bernie, too, is rather vulnerable. He is too willing to promise stuff without reckoning the costs. He, likewise, feels entitled to win -- though perhaps not with the same urgency Hillary has.
I wish we could persuade Elizabeth Warren to run -- because, in fact, any of the three should be able to beat Trump... And, were she to win, she'd be the most capable person in leading the country in productive directions!.

Date: 2016-05-08 12:11 pm (UTC)That said, I wouldn't mind seeing her on the Court.
The thing about the email-server thing -- she didn't do anything wrong. The people who are making that whole stuff up will go ahead and find similar things about any person in the United States they want to. The only reason we haven't heard similar stories of not-particularly-bad-things-dressed-up-to-look-bad about Sanders is because the RNC hit squads haven't been attacking him yet.
The thing is -- the RNC hit squads have been attacking Clinton for a quarter century. She's used to it, and where she sits now is where she sits after the hit squads have given it their all for ever. They can't crank it up any further. Sanders, on the other hand -- if the RNC hit squads start coming after him, they'll be able to peel off, like, fifty percent of his most ardent supporters, I bet. Because his most ardent supporters are idealists, and idealists are very vulnerable to implications of impurity in their idols, and that's exactly what the RNC hit squads will be able to imply, whether or not it's true.

I think I only saw one episode of The Outer Limits, whereas I grew up on SciFi channel Twilight Zone marathons. So....Twilight Zone.

No real preference between Twilight Zone or Outer Limits.

Date: 2016-05-08 12:50 pm (UTC)I live close to VT and having gotten a close look at Sanders' work (rather than much of the country/world who started to hear more about him this year) I find him worthy of respect and praise but also a bit of an empty suit.
I do have some qualms with Clinton and legacy politics in general, but her policy proposals are extremely detailed and well thought out and in line with mine in a lot of ways and I think a lot of the hate and framing is rooted in sexism.

Hmm.. Probably Twilight Zone. Outer Limits could be creepier and more fleshed out, but Twilight Zone had more twists.

Date: 2016-05-08 06:39 pm (UTC)I'm impressed that Mr Sanders got as far as he did against the Hillary Machine. But he was doomed to fail against that Machine, and “the American Evita.” Fortunately it did not prove necessary to arrange a tragic accident (https://youtu.be/C7rLYh52fPE) this time…
Turn on the computer and Internet.
Twilight Zone, because its half-hour format required drum-head-taut screenplays without a wasted second. Occasional efforts in The Outer Limits are noteworthy, of course (“Demon With a Glass Hand,” being perhaps the most famous) but most of its episodes are unknown today, while TZ stories like “Time Enough at Last” or “Odyssey of Flight 33” or “The Invaders” - or “King Nine Will Not Return” or “The Last Flight” for that matter - are iconic, remembered immediately by TV buffs.

Date: 2016-05-11 12:55 pm (UTC)The new Twilight Zone in the 1980s was good, too, and went places the first one quite obviously could NOT.
[This will not mean quite as much to Mr Sumner as it does to us, but the cultural zeitgeist is known, certainly. ]

[Interestingly, right after this scene we hear over the car radio:
I am honored to have this invitation to address the annual meeting of the
Dallas Citizens Council, joined by the members of the Dallas Assembly — and
pleased to have this opportunity to salute the Graduate Research Center of
the Southwest. It is fitting that these two symbols of Dallas progress are
united in the sponsorship of this meeting. For they represent the best
qualities, I am told, of leadership and learning in this city — and
leadership and learning are indispensable to each other…
It's the absolutely ordinary whistlestop campaign / local booster speech JFK was on his way to deliver on that ordinary Friday afternoon, one of interchangeable dozens.
[He's at, “My friends and fellow citizens: I cite these facts and figures to make it clear that America today is stronger than ever before. Our adversaries have not abandoned their ambitions, our dangers have not diminished, our vigilance cannot be relaxed. But now we have the military, the scientific, and the economic strength to do whatever must be done for the preservation and promotion of freedom.…” ]

Date: 2016-05-12 11:31 pm (UTC)The episode Profile In Silver has a historian from the future goes back to that date and saves Kennedy from the Dallas shooting and on the day after that date the first ever Doctor Who was aired. I remember all this as a child. I use to watch those 80.s version of the Twilight Zone.
RE: Dallas, 22 November 1963
Date: 2016-05-13 01:08 pm (UTC)I remember a phrase I read years ago: “If you want to understand the idea of conspiracy theories, study the Kennedy assassination. Whether or not a conspiracy actually existed, seeing how easily there could have been dozens of conspiracies will give you the right perspective…”
