The Facts of Life and Other Dirty JokesThe Facts of Life and Other Dirty Jokes by Willie Nelson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A gift from my brother [livejournal.com profile] davesmusictank who found this mint copy in a charity shop. He knows my love for Wille Nelson's music and thought I would like this. Too right!

"Who knew that the world's best-loved country singer had such a good sense of humour?" Texas Monthly

A delightful read crammed with anecdotes from Nelson's touring career visiting many different states and venues. So many of his contemporaries are here: Roger Miller, Bob Wills, Ben Dorcy, Hank Williams, Lee Ann Womack, Waylon Jennings, to name a few. Every so often, every ten pages or so, Nelson says: "Did I tell you my publishers like this book?" ! There are funny jokes, risqué jokes and downright rude jokes - nothing offensive though.

Thanks Dave - I loved it!

Another hot sticky day reaching 28C in the garden with high humidity. But we had some breeze for a change!

Have not done much today. Preferred to soak in the sun rather than do anything strenuous. So an hour or so of just sunbathing, listening to music, having some food, and reading.

Applied for some visits from HS Brands. Seems years since I did any shops for them, so fingers crossed.

I did walk into town and back to have a meal and a drink at my local pub. Bangers and mash again. A pint of Jaipur and a glass of red merlot. Damn satisfying!!

The eBay sales are dead sluggish at the moment. I guess it is the weather and that perhaps sometimes people do not want to buy books and CDs. Really? My prices are competitive and fair, so I think there are just too many outlets and too many eBayers.

Oh well, might pop into Past Sentence tomorrow and see if Kate will take some off me.

Some more pics took over the last few days.

Blue skies all round in Faversham. Spoons pictured in the second photo.

Pesky seagull nearby trying to see if I had food, hence my annoyance.

Usually, David Hurwitz gives a great video of what he thinks are the best recordings of classical music. This time he has gone profound or profoundly mad. It is hilarious either way. How he did not crack up during the 16 mins of the video is amazing.

May the multiverse gives us an infinite version of Beethoven's string quartets.

Review: The ULTIMATE Beethoven String Quartets on TINNITUS CLASSICS!

However, I ask myself, do we need that de-coherencer? When we just put the quantum quartet CD into the ordinary player and listen to it play, that makes the collapse of the wave function and we hear one specific performance. And the performance will be basically decided randomly, but it does not only depend on the CD and the player themselves but also depend on us the listener. How we listen affects the result. It’s one of the measurement problems pointed out by Heisenberg in his Uncertainty Principle.

LOL! Mad but fun.

As an aside: Hugh Everett also has a more direct musical connection, albeit not classical. His son, Mark Oliver Everett is the hugely talented leader, songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist of the rock band Eels.

Cummings

I am currently listening to the extended BBC podcast - The Dominic Cummings interview with Laura Kuenssberg. Dominic Cummings talks about his role in government during the pandemic, his relationship with the prime minister, and his role in Brexit. She really digs hard into him making the slimy bugger squirm. And as far as I am concerned, the Brexit campaign was a dirty campaign against the remainders.

Insightful and makes me angry about how the truth had been manipulated to serve the government lackeys.

Two Trouts

Going thru my Schubert section I discovered quite by accident I have two versions of The Trout Quintet. Both on Naxos, 1989 and 1992. Listening to both does reveal considerable interpretive qualities and timings.
