Another mixed bag weatherwise. Dull and overcast, some rain and little in the way of sunshine. After listening to some music by Scott Walker this morning I walked into town to sell some books at Past Sentence. I also found a couple of CDs with the proceeds from the sale I made at Kate's bookshop.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (EMI)
The Be Good Tanyas - Hello Love ((Nettwerk)

Getting the Floyd CD for a quid was a bonus!

I walked back and found a few free books somebody had put outside of their house with "Take Free" notice in the box of books. I have five books to add to the collection. More on them later.

Following on from [livejournal.com profile] coming42 posting Portuguese Love by Teena Marie here is the other version that I use to play often back in the noughties down at the Northern Lights.

Bah Samba - Portuguese Love

Alice Russell is on vocals.
In early 1996 Julian Bendall, Kevin Alexander and Geoff Holroyd (the surnames of which make up the Bah) formed a loose group of naturally talented musicians to play live and maybe record a few songs whilst experimenting with the fusion of traditional musicianship, dance, and modern recording techniques at Midi. In fact, I knew Julian well as he also drank at The Evening Star pub, my local in Brighton.

This track was on their 2005 album Bah Samba 4 and the track was on single as well and 12" with remixes including Jazzanova's version.

They also did this one with Roy Ayers no less - and I had that direct from Julian one day straight after the pressing was done. Yep, hot of the press!

Time for more music -

Henry Purcell - Dido and Aeneas Z. 626: Act III, Thy hand, Belinda / When I am laid in earth

Guillaume Dufay - Ave Regina celorum

John Dowland - I Saw My Ladye Weepe

One of the most subtle and beautiful of all of John Dowland's songs. It expresses the paradox of the beauty that can lie in sadness.
Composer: John Dowland Voice: Emma Kirkby Lute: Anthony Rooley

Claudio Monteverdi - Prologue - Sinfonia - Prologue - "Deh, nasconditi, o Virtù"

Anne Sofie von Otter · Catherine Bott · Marinella Pennicchi · English Baroque Soloists · John Eliot Gardiner
