Back in 1991 Wire did an article on baroque music concentrating on Vivaldi and Telemann. Telemann in his time was more popular than J.S.Bach but seems to be forgotten until the period-instrument movement began. Chandos Records have done a whole series of recordings of his music including the one posted here.

More baroque bifurcations - and a couple of moderns. For [livejournal.com profile] sallymn.

Henry Purcell - Sound The Trumpet

Here we have James Bowman (at right) - the charismatic doyen of modern countertenors - alongside Michael Chance, one of Bowman's many protégés. In this recording, they sing Purcell's famous duet in a manner that says it all about vocal skill, communication, and mutual respect.

Georg Friedrich Händel - Arias from "Admeto, Re di Tessaglia"

From the Opera "Admeto, Re di Tessaglia"
Trasimede, the Prince and brother of Admeto.
00:02 - Se l' arco avessi, e i strali

Started reading the poems in The Shadow Knows by Adrian Mitchell whilst listening to some music in the background. After the Beethoven, some Ravel and his Piano Concerto in G Major, but then whilst in this exulted mood i had play some Bach again, and this time some of the Brandenburg Concertos, specifically No.3.

Here is a clip by the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Enjoy.
