Help Needed

MY husband and I both worked at the same place and we were doing quite well - until we were contracted out (as in our contracts were abruptly ended) from our jobs for previous illnesses and following protocols for our temp service when it comes to Covid-19 exposure (luckily, our little family all came up negative for our Covid tests). We were unable to work out the rest of our week, which would have given us just enough to pay for the rent that is due on the 5th and get us by for the next week. Now we need to pay that rent and have enough left over for the week, as we search for new jobs. Our last two days would have given us about $260 a-piece, so we are short by (rounded down) $500, which would allow us to squeak by with rent and give us enough to last for the next few days.

Help can be sent to Paypal at phoenixdragondreams@gmail.com and Venmo at @(AT)Amanda-Davis-Reed.

Any help would be appreciated - and I thank you all for listening!

Mandy

New Month

I have just relised it is the witching hour and beyond midnight. I had been watching Endeavour on Britbox in the common room.

It has been quiet here in this sleepy end of the town. Nothing planned for Monday and Tuesday I will no longer be brassic.

I have quite a few visits lined up with six visits along the coast in Dover, Deal, and Folkestone. Charity shop visits in Canterbury, Hythe, New Romney,Paddock Wood, Tenterden, and some in Beckenham and Turnham Green and a cafe visit in Blackheath.

So now it is November. The clocks went back and the nights are drawing in. Not a fan of the winter months.

Like many of Stevie Smith’s poems, this one is a little unusual and all the better for it. The speaker is an old man remembering his wedding night during the Blitz when he married ‘a girl with t.b.’ There aren’t many twentieth-century poets who can get away with the breathless romanticism of an ‘Oh’ in their poetry, but Stevie Smith manages it beautifully and poignantly here, in her final line.

I Remember

by Stevie Smith

It was my bridal night I remember,
An old man of seventy-three
I lay with my young bride in my arms,
A girl with t.b.
It was wartime, and overhead
The Germans were making a particularly heavy raid on Hampstead.
Harry, do they ever collide?
I do not think it has ever happened,
Oh my bride, my bride.

Have you gotten all your clocks changed yet? Which is the worst one to do?

When a holiday is over, do you immediately undecorate or wait for a bit?

How do you judge a person?

Have any of you Whovians watched the first episode of the latest season of Dr.Who yet? I watched it last night and found it a bit confusing at first. Let me know what you think.

By the way, who loves the new post editor? I tried it. Did not like it and went back to the old style.
