Do you read a newspaper now? If so, paper or online?

Have you ever ridden a horse?

Do you like musicals, and if so, what is your favourite and why?

Yes, I read papers every week, and real paper although I do occasionally read one online.

Yes, lots :)

Musicals are not my favourite genre, but I have been in a couple. I do find myself singing some of the songs from Jesus Christ Superstar eg Mary Magdalene's song and Hair :P

Yes, the real newspaper still delivered to the door each day. We read news online but still like the feel/scent of newspaper.

I rode horses a long, long time ago.

I do like musicals and which ones depends on the mood. Don't know if I have a favorite even though I of course loved "Cats." ;P " Sweeney Todd" comes to mind (not the movie but an onstage production seen in Atlanta years ago) and "Phantom of the Opera." The sound for "Phantom" was filtered about the theater w. speakers and at one point we 'hear' the Phantom behind us. Actually I think I prefer live productions to movies bc it becomes an experience w. the entire theater and audience. I also liked the dressing up part of it and it being an event to be planned and shared w. others.

But at this stage of life I'd watch on DVD or TV if it meant seeing a musical I since going to the theater is no longer possible.

1) No. I hadn't read them for decades anyway, even before it became obvious that they were doomed to the scrap heap of history.

2) Yes, I rode horses many times. I took lessons. I participated in riding competitions.
Then I became allergic to horses. :(

3) In general, no, I hate them. I'll make an exception for Gilbert and Sullivan.

I love these little surveys, thank you for doing them! :)

I subscribe to the electronic edition of the Camden Courier-Post but I also read stories from the New York Times, Asbury Park Press and Bergen Record. We experimented with a subscription to the paper edition of the Times but we couldn't keep up and it was contributing to a clutter problem, so we cancelled it. Interestingly it costs more to get the electronic subscription only than to take a physical copy of the paper (which comes with the electronic access)! We also have a "hyperlocal" news blog, owned and largely written by a former newspaper journalist, which gives a lot of context (and good gossip) to local issues.

Yes, I rode a horse the first time when I was five and got thrown off it, but that didn't stop me. i have done so several time since.

I am selective about musicals; there needs to be more plot than razzle-dazzle. I'm not crazy about the (recent?) trend to write a very thin plot around a particular catalog of music (e.g. Mama Mia).

My favorite is Chess which may technically be a rock opera. HCD and I broke the bank to see one of two performances of it at the Royal Albert, but it was quite worth it!

Every morning. It's delivered.

Yes, but it's been ages.

the music is fabulous, it's funny, sad, sweet, and poignant, all at the same time.

Do you read a newspaper now? If so, paper or online?

My husband never misses a day and he does the crossword and the sudoku puzzles. I rarely read a newspaper, getting my news on-line instead. I do read the Sunday comic pages, though.

Have you ever ridden a horse?

Of course! I was raised in the West (that's the Wild West to you - LOL). Horses were a part of my upbringing because my cousin was totally enamoured of the beasts. In fact, she still owns several horses. My DH is not fond of them, so I've ridden rarely in the past 40 years, but rode almost weekly from age 10-18.

Do you like musicals, and if so, what is your favourite and why?

I'm not that fond of musicals, although I've seen quite a few because my mother loved them and took me along with her to the theatre.

Not really a whole newpaper. I read the entertainment section of the Minneapolis newspaper. The physical paper. And as for the more local papers, about the only thing I "read" is the sales ads. Local papers are fairly worthless. :o

I have ridden a horse, MANY years ago.

LOVE musicals. Don't think I could possibly pick one single favorite, so I will list a few.
Jekyll and Hyde, The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Urinetown, Jesus Christ Superstar, My Fair Lady...
Hugs, Jon

I've never been a big newspaper person. "It bleeds, it leads" is why. I find I still get all the bad news anyway, through Hubby or friends. But it's easier somehow to listen to a brief summary from someone live than to read all the gory details.

I've only ridden once, on our honeymoon, as one of the range of activities offered at the "Honeymoon" place where
we stayed.

I love musicals and our high school put one on every year; The Mikado was probably my favorite (I was one of the 3 sisters). I also went to those put on by my brother's school.

I read the NY Times online.

I rode a horse a few times, in Boy Scouts (c. 1973)

I like Jesus Christ Superstar and Cats. I generally don't like musicals in person. One I did like in person was Avenue Q.

No, alas...the news makes me wanna choke things and I can't seem to find a reliable enough source to tolerate the headache!

Long ago. Damned thing tried to buck me off of it!

Afraid not. I can somewhat enjoy them, but I'm not big on them. That being said, I still will willingly watch anything A.L Webber...

1. Yes. I like to hold one in my hand when I read. I feel the same about books. No electronic readers for me.
2. Yes. We owned five horses for many, many years.
3. I love musicals. Performing in them was my life for over 30 years! My favorite musicals are Ragtime, Man of La Mancha and Evita (which I performed in 1605 times).

No, although I miss the paper pages of the news!

Yes, briefly.

I like music in a way that is difficult to pinpoint in specific genres, but...I'd have to say a three-way tie:
American Idiot, because it reignited music in my head that had been dormant for too many years.
Once More With Feeling, because it was sheer, utter genius (and incredibly character-driven/evolving).
South Park, because it was a perfect homage to the (musical) structure of musicals.

I check the local rag online every day, but rarely find anything I care to read. (A lot of the local paper is high school sports). I page through it if I find it in a waiting room.

Yes, but not in more than 40 years. I want to do it again!

I've only experienced a few musicals, but I've liked what I've seen (mostly in movie form). My favorite is, of course, Cats.

I read two newspapers (on actual paper) each morning over breakfast. I don't get all that much news on line, really, which may be a reflection on my age.

I used to ride horses back when I was 12 - 13. Took lessons. Never got very good.

I think you could say my taste in musicals is "old musicals." Oklahoma, West Side Story, My Fair Lady == that sort of thing. I know the words to a lot of the old songs from listening to them many times.

Why these particular questions?

Online sometimes, though not at the minute, the looming election makes it something to avoid :(

Once. For two minutes. Never again.

I adore them, have quite a lot (both filmed stage productions and movie musicals). My favourite stage one would be one of Sondheim's, maybe Sweeney Todd or Sunday in the Park with George... film musical always was, always will be, Singing in the Rain (though Top Hat comes a close second)

Yes, every day. In online form; I gave up paper years ago.

I have. I fell off, IIRC.

I fucking love musicals. My favourite is The Black Rider, of course, because it's a collaboration between three artists (Tom Waits, William S. Burroughs, and Robert Wilson) that are brilliant. I was into the music before I realized it was a musical. The stage show also draws a lot on German Expressionism, which is one of my two favourite artistic movements. Cabaret is probably my second favourite because I have a fetish for Weimar-era Berlin. Les Mis is my guilty pleasure.

Not so much, although I do glance at the headlines if I pass a vending box.

Yes, I took three months of lessons when I was 8. Haven't ridden since, though; we couldn't afford to continue the lessons, nor could we even come close to affording a horse.

I adore many musicals from before about 1978, by and large loathe the more recent ones. My current favorite is the 1953 movie version of Kiss Me Kate, because it combines Cole Porter's sense of humor (albeit edited; the stage version is much more, well, Chaucerian) with a superb cast. Especially Howard Keel. IN TIGHTS. *ahem*

If ever I'm in a coffee shop or something and there's a local paper lying around, I'll read it. I rarely check the local news. I think I've bought a local paper maybe twice a year after some major natural event (e.g. fires and earthquakes here in northern California), if I like the A-1 layout.

The local free alt-weekly used to be the best source for local entertainment calendar and columns. It's not as good as it used to be and sometimes a month or more goes by and I realize I haven't grabbed one out of a rack or off q pile.

I keep a subscription to the digital New York Times. They have a free subscription app called NYTNow and there's the regular full access subscription with VR features and all that.

Other than that, it's a matter of Twitter links that catch my eye. Overall, it's an absurd amount of time that I spend reading short bits online, but I'm trying to curb that.

I rode horses regularly when I was in elementary school, in middle school I switched up to motorcycles for trail riding (and always considerate of those on horseback, I might add.)
Lately I've been looking at getting back into horseback riding.

And yes, I like musicals. When I lived in NY, I went to shows frequently when young and at least a couple of times a year in my older years.
