Yet people do that. I worked as a library page many years ago, and a book from the bookmobile came back with a slice of raw bacon in its pages. :-p

I just use pieces of paper. I have one for the page I am on, one for the midway point, and one for the final page. Gives me marks to shoot for. LOL........

Most anything can serve a bookmark and I have plenty of odd things being used to prove that. Mostly I use strips of paper w. images printed on them, also thin strips of plain paper saved from collage work along w. various bought book marks or those free ones from the library. I keep the bookmarks in one spot and usually grab several to use when I begin a new book but that doesn't mean I won't dog ear a page or take a pen/pencil to it bc I'm also prone to underlining quotes.

Being a notorious page bender... I still do that even in library books which requires using the iron on dry heat to flatten the edges. *facepalm

I must see reading as being a recreational sport since I'm so physical w. my books. ;)

I used my knitting needles as a very temporary bookmark just last evening. This filled a dual purpose, securing my knitting as well as my page in the book. LOL

My current bookmarks (in books I'm actually reading now) include a postcard, a scrap of fabric, some laminated dried flowers, and a paperclip. Oh, and a couple of actual, official bookmarks.

This is so true. Even worse is when you've BOUGHT actual bookmarks and still use things like adverts and receipts. :)
