EU Results

I suspect that the referendum on the EU will have more mileage to go and that the result is not binding.
We all know that the Government MPs have too much personal money to loose to exit the EU and they will wriggle to have the vote overturned. After all they need their retirement plan in Brussels. Meanwhile let the Brexit voters enjoy winning it's victory for a while. Once the shit hits the fan then they will discover what it really means - so they better not regret the decision.

I voted remain, we lost this needs to be accepted and we move on. Why have a referendum in the first place if it's not binding. No I'm not happy with the outcome but what's done is done!

Ohh, they regret it. Most just won't admit it. What a freaking disaster....

Then again, who wants to admit to crashing the economy, destroying the pound overnight, stranding your fellow-countrymen and letting the Neo-Nazis take over?

*HUGS*

Well, a vote is a vote. On the other hand, the split was not huge and the vote not binding, so what is the rush to leave? I would like to see the EU call a time out and think this through more clearly.

Exactly! If Cameron had had any balls at all, he'd have declared that the vote was far too close to make such a drastic change. There should have been a requirement for a decent majority. However, I think we now have to stop blaming one another and try to see a way through this mess. I don't agree with those who voted Leave, but I can see why they did it and we need to find a way to heal the rifts in British society.

It's just unfortunate that if we do actually leave, the poor are the ones who will be hit hardest, because they are always the ones who suffer in any crisis and the rich always have the resources to ride things out.

That is exactly it-a certain percentage to make the mandate from the people CLEAR. I see no reason why the exit should not be postponed, a new PM in place and another referendum held, this time with a clear percentage for exiting in place. You don't have a Constitution, no reason why this cannot happen and it really should.

There are so many ramifications to this exit. Things you might not expect or consider important, but will happen. I read that the the Movie/TV industry will be afffected-so Game of Thrones might not be as lavish. In the greater scheme of things, a tv show is not important. Until you consider how many jobs will be lost if they have to scale back on filming. Stuff like this that no one thinks about...

But what about Scotland and their current membership in the EU? Wouldn't that tie things up a bit and help to maybe stay? I know just enough about this to sound stupid.

From what I've read the EU wants the UK's formal notice to be given quickly. I wonder if the exits will continue, and thus, an EU collapse in short order.

Umm, I think they already lost their money.

Very much so - I remain incredulous that such a major step, fundamental to our current political existence, can be decided with a simple majority. For something of that magnitude, I'd far sooner require a genuine mandate, with a majority of at least 60%, if not more.

Not binding, hey?

I think they shouldn't do it then.

It was a close thing, nearly 50/50. And only 1/3 of young people voted, and most of them want to Remain. I think there has to be more of a mandate than that. Why all the rush to declare it even before all votes were counted? Stupid politicians. And stupid people who voted for it, what with their right wing and xenophobic tendancies. Yes, the EU was a bit dictatorial. Better if they could talk things over and not go ahead with this. It is effecting all around the world already.
