A fair comment from[livejournal.com profile] thespian15 wanted to know what Suite Francoise is all about. I have watched the DVD but not read the book as yet,and it is the latter his enquiry was about. So it got me thinking about adaptations of novels and books into film  or TV media ,so -

What book do you wish they never made into a movie/TV show?

What book do you wish they would make into a movie/TV show?

Is there a film based on a book that you think is better than the book?

What book have you reread at least more than once?

Hmmm...

#1: Persuasion by A.S. Byatt. The book is infinitely better, and the movie was such a watered down version of it.
#2: None, really. :) I prefer books.
#3: None come to mind.
#4: Oh, too many to count.

1. I'm sure there are some, but for the time being they are banished from my memory.
2. The Gerald Samper novels of James Hamilton-Paterson, starting with Cooking with Fernet Branca.
3. Our Man in Havana by Graham Greene.
4. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carré.

1. Watchmen. No need for an adaptation.
2. The Bas-Lag Trilogy by China Mieville, though fuck knows how they'd ever do it.
3. I think Blade Runner is better than Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? And on the shitty end of the media spectrum, the Twilight movies are all better than the books, though that's damning with faint praise.
4. Sunshine by Robin McKinley was my go-to uplifting book for a long time.

I wish they had never made Scarlett into a TV movie/series. In fact I wish they had never written the book. I haven't watched it or read it, and never will. :o

I wish my friend's books, The McFadden series, was made into a movie/series.

Not sure I know any movies that are better then the books. Although Gone With The Wind the book and the movie stand pretty equally on their own. :)

I don't know if I have ever reread a book more then once, not counting A Christmas Carol, that I try to read each Christmas.
Hugs, Jon

I don't really know.

I wish they'd get "Night Circus" done! Damn, I've been waiting for years now! Also "Daughters of the Witching Hill" by Mary Sharatt.

"Awakenings" by Oliver Sacks. The book was good, but wasn't nearly as good as the movie. Of course the book was factual, and the movie took liberties. Big ones.

The LOTR series, "Mists of Avalon", "The Crystal Cave"- I did a lot of rereading in my childhood and teens because there just weren't as many books available to me then. I haven't done a reread in decades now.

I don't think there is a book I wish wasn't made into a film, maybe not the version presented but I never thought no never make a film of that.

I'd like to see a TV series based on Mark Hodder's Burton and Swinburne series (I think a TV series would compliment the complexity and scale of the stories) and Films based on George Mann's Newbury and Hobbes/ The Ghost series of books, I think they have a cinematic quality to them which would lead to an easy and faithful adaption to the screen.

I think the 1958 Hammer version of Hound of the Baskervilles improves on the book in a few areas, namely the reason for the missing portrait and the family link with Stapleton.

I have re-read Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea several times, also HG Wells War of the Worlds.
