Still, effervescent cider can be quite decent, as with Dunkerton's Black Fox - and, surprisingly, Sainsbury's own brand vintage cider is one of my regular purchases, offering a satisfyingly rich tang at a very pleasant £2 per 750ml bottle. (Speaking as one who grew up in various parts of cider country, and misses Somerset's devotion to the craft, not to mention Waitrose selling Ermie & Gertie's Yarlington Mill & Pippin in the Bath branch - a true farmhouse cider, oak casked - pungent heaven!)
Beers come second, with pilsners at the top of the list.
I used to love good German wheat beers, like Hacker Pschorr, but they give me intestinal troubles now, so I drink them only rarely if ever at this point.
Anything, if it's good. ^_^ I do lean more toward ales and ciders, but I'll also sometimes thoroughly enjoy a good gin or whisky, such as Martin Miller's or Sipsmith, either by itself, or maybe with a good tonic - MM goes incredibly well with Fever Tree's elderflower tonic, for instance. And I've been known to place an order with Master of Malt, usually for rums, but one time, I did add a dram of an exotic whisky - a 43 y.o. selling for over £500 a bottle, so something like £20 for a good taste is the only sane way to try it. (It was utterly amazing, with complexity beyond anything else I've encountered, making the usual 15-25 y.o. varieties available quite straightforward by comparison)
Mmm, and I'm reminded there is an exceptional gin joint nearby, with a few hundred varieties available.. I think I may have to pay them a visit. =:9
I like something dry occasionally, savoring the taste before zwitching to something nonalcoholic never got plastered nor do I want to
Dry cider or dry wine
Then, again, I've tried Sabra, which is like a combination of creme de cacao and Triple Sec. Here's the information about it in case you're interested: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabra_liqueur
Cider, preferably dry and still. I also looooove a good dark beer (if light will pass through it I don't wanna drink it), but celiac took that off the menu.
The Macallan, generally 10 or 12. (Can't afford 20.)
I don't drink much but if I'm ordering it I prefer whiskey. I can drink pretty much anything socially. My least favorite drinks are the sweet ones they remind me of cough syrup.
It's funny. When I first saw your question, I thought "aha, finally a question I can easily answer". But then I started thinking about it, and it's not all that easy. Or at least not easy if you are asking me to choose one or the other.
I most commonly drink red wine. Prefer red to white, very much so.
But as for other alcohols, even my taste in beers changes from day to day. I don't really like a molasses dark Guiness. But amber, to pale ale, to red ale, cream ale, IPA. The best beer I ever remember tasting was the draught beer they served at the HofBrauHaus in Munich, served in a massive garbage pail glass stein.
But caesars, gin and tonics, single malt scotch (12 years and up), rum and coke, martinis with olives. Depends on the mood. And who's buying.
Our beer becomes worse and worse every year. I am a chemist by education and was working on a beer plant, so I know what is going on with a beer in Russia... It is better to make it by himself or to stop drinking it at all. It is like a tasteless carbonated drink with chemical flavorings here now...
Something goes wrong with monopolies in Russia. When I was visiting our small country Chuvashia around one thousand km from our capital, which was number one in USSR in a beer production, I had bought illegal beer from the small underground factory, the workers sold it surreptitiously from under the counter cause all production goes to the Saint Petersburg's clubs, as the saying goes - it was the beer! In Chuvashia in Soviet times there were large fields planted with the best varieties of hops which all now devastated, now all the materials for beer production instead of grain and water, are imported from abroad... So, we could make good beer but the salaries in Russia are so small now that it is more profitable to make carbonated drinks but if you want good beer you should pay extra money. The imported good beer costs is around two dollars for a 0,5 l bottle while our "Russian made on foreign companies" is around 1 dollar...
Context is important. I drink wine if I'm in an Italian restaurant and beer if I'm in a pub. When I'm driving around I like to drink whatever's local. For instance if I'm in Herefordshire I'll drink cider.
I used to be a heavy drinker in my teens, 20's and 30's.
I finally got sick of hangovers, throwing up, and being told about all the stupid shit I had done the night before, so I drank less and less, hadn't gotten drunk in years, then quit altogether in summer 2014.
All of the above, at different times. There are no categories of alcohol that I dislike. I dislike specific instances which are poorly made, but I don't dislike any types.
