I am not the best typist in the world and sometimes come a cropper with howling funny typos, so i wondered how about you.

How well do you type?

Do you look at the keys?

Have you ever learnt shorthand?

Pretty well.

No. The letters are worn away, so there'd not be much point.

No.

I used to have to look at the keys, but when I got bad neck pain, my doctor told me to learn to touch-type, because the posture when you look at the keys is very bad for the back and neck.

I type fast but I make a fair number of mistakes, not all of which I catch at the time.

Only when I position my hands.

No.

I get along okay, typing with an index finger on the left, a middle finger on the right, and a thumb thrown in for the space-bar.

Yes, I have to see what I'm doing to type.

Not the official kind of shorthand, just my own eclectic version sometimes.

I type well enough, but am not all that fast, nor is my accuracy all that good.

I learned to touch type, so I generally don't look at the keys... unless I'm reaching for one of the lesser used, farther away ones. I do watch what appears on the screen as I type, as opposed to the ideal of watching what one is copying when typing. (Kind of hard to do if one is typing out of one's head.)

Never learned any sort of short hand... my hand writing has gotten so bad that if I don't do something with what I've written in a short while, I might not have any idea of what it is.

Pretty well, but I have to back up and 'rewrite' a lot, lol!!

Oh yes. Though more often than not, that just messes me up! I actually type better than I think I do, so stopping to glance at the keys slows me down and makes me have to rethink what I'm typing. *grins*

Nope. Not really a skill they teach in K-12 anymore.

*HUGS*

1. I never took a typing course, so my fingers are all over the place. I am getting pretty good, but I'm not there yet.

2. Yes, I look at the keys from time to time.

3. No, I don't know shorthand.

I'm one of the ones who types fast but makes a lot of mistakes, haha. I can't remember how many WPM I had last time I took a test.

I never look at the keys.

I've never learnt shorthand.

I type very well. I was a TTY relay operator for a while after college and my highest test score while there was 110 words per minute.

I only look at the keys for numbers and symbols.

Never learned shorthand.

Don't need to.

Yes.

Good enough to pass my Business Administration course. Thirty words per minute. Accuracy at least ninety eight percent.

I glance if I don't leave my fingers on the standard positions.

Yes. But the general terms.

I think I type pretty well for never having a typing class in school. I never really typed until we started using computers at work.

For the most part I don't look at the keys, but I do use the backspace key a bit. lol...

Never learned short hand. I am not even a fan of computer "shorthand" or whatever you want to call it. lol... If being honest, it drives me a little crazy when people don't spell out words. :p

When I was in grade seven, my teacher took me aside one day and told me that if I wanted to attend university in future, I should take a typing course as soon as it was offered in highschool. I followed her advice, thankfully. My handwriting is so bad, the principal of the school wanted permission from my parents to give me the strap until I had improved. Since my handwriting even then was about the same as my father's they did not give their approval and it remains illegible to this day. (I was in Grade 2 at the time.)

I don't measure my typing speed these days but back when they had those Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, I regularly clocked over a hundred words per minute. My accuracy depended on how well I was doing that particular day.

But when I went to university, that was back in the day before word processors. Consequently, if I made more than two typing errors on a single page, I had to retype the entire page. I grew to be very accurate and very fast, especially since I left writing all my major term papers until the day or two before it was due. I once completed an 86 page term paper in 36 hours (without sleeping), but I managed to get a First on it. Phew.

I think through my fingertips. I could never imagine not typing. I prefer typing to conversation.

I do not typically look at the keys. Numbers and specialty symbols screw me up a bit, but otherwise, I'm okay.

I never learned shorthand, though someone looking at my handwriting might mistake it for shorthand because it doesn't resemble the English language.
