Date: 2016-11-18 02:41 pm (UTC)2. I had pets - dogs, cats, a tortoise, a bugie, goldfish, a lizard (though that was really my brother's) and rats on loan from his school. I didn't have pets for very many years while I was working in central London and the houses/flats I was living in wasn't suitable. From 1995, we've had cats. Since we retired, dogs.
3. Personally owned? Well, we bred cats - Singapuras - that are very rare in the UK, and I own a breed of dog - a Smooth Collie - which is also rare in the UK.
4. No.
5. ...when you realise that they own you.

Date: 2016-11-18 03:02 pm (UTC)Had little breaks in between some of them. But have had dogs, one cat, or tropical fish off and on since I was a kid. :)
Probably the tropical fish. Nothing too crazy here. lol...
I did, sat with some friends' two dogs one time.

Date: 2016-11-18 03:44 pm (UTC)2. Yes, always. The only time I didn't have pets was when I was in grad school.
3. I don't like unusual pets. But as a child I had hamsters.
4. I recently pet sat for a friend who had to go out of state for a funeral. My dog and his dog were friends.

2. Pretty much. A cat called Thomas when I was a wee lad but he got run over. A cat named Jess who may have also been run over as she was found near a road but equally both her litter sisters died in their sleep around the same age so... A gerbil who lived to a spritly 5 years old which is really old in gerbil terms and a Westie called Vila (after the guy from Blake's 7) who lived until he was 14.
3. All been pretty normal to be honest... though Missy hunts stones.
4. I did once or twice for my friend Neil when he and his wife went away for their anniversary
5.... mud on the floor is normal

Date: 2016-11-18 05:16 pm (UTC)Oh, yes. I grew up with cats. Even when I lived in an apartment that allowed absolutely NO ANIMALS I managed to sneak a Siamese fighting fish in. Had to have a pet!
I've never had unusual animals; cats, fish, once I had chameleons, the poultry.... oh, a goat, too. Either the six-toed Manx cat (Sideshow) or the South American ducks with the weird red warty faces.
Yes, I used to take care of C's cats when he had to travel for business, and I'll be cat sitting for almost a month when friends go to the British Isles. Edit: Oh, and how could I forget the numerous times we've taken care of the neighbors alpacas when they've gone on vacations? (they have other animals, too, but the alpacas are a pain in the ass)

Date: 2016-11-18 06:43 pm (UTC)2. We had dogs and horses growing up
3. Are horses unusual? They're not in Texas.
4. I have not
5. You know you are a pet owner when your schedule revolves around taking care of them before anything else. (True side story - In Seattle, it is a crime to speak of yourself as a pet owner. It denotes slavery of the animal. Seattle has what I call crunchy granola politics. )

A snake. :D
Nope!
You get woken up before you are truly ready to be awake and you don't think anything of it (whether it is howls for food, something crashing in the house, etc...)

3. A freshwater eel.
4. On occasion. Most recently, I had a friend's cat living with me for a week. The girls were not pleased.

Date: 2016-11-19 04:11 am (UTC)2) Except for a few years in my former apartment, I was living under the paws of felines since I can remember (if not before)
3) None really
4) I've kitty-sat for a couple of friends (they still talk about one of their former furred managers and how she "adopted" me

Date: 2016-11-19 06:28 am (UTC)2. Growing up, we had a series of dogs, and 2 litters of puppies. As an adult I have had 3 different Black Lab mixes over the past 20 years.
In my adult years, before I got a dog I had a cat for a few months, a Gerbil, Zebra Finches, and tropical fish.
3. The weirdest pet I ever had was a wild (not from a store) rat.
4. I have pet-sat for friends' dogs and cats, but not often.
5. You know you are a pet owner when you are unfazed by the fur dust bunnies that perpetually live under your furniture.

3. I had a Breaded Dragon for a while :)
4. No,although I do go over and feed Chook Lady's chooks.
5. You love them to death (not literally) and have to look after them. That can actually be a lot of work!
