So, after such a downer of a day some music to lift things backup again - and WiFi everywhere tonight seems to be so slow and crap -
To Rococo Rot -Speculation Ship
Mendel - Shores
Squirrel Nut Zippers - Got My Own Thing Now
Dagmar Krause - Pavel's Prison Song
Dagmer does one of the Invisible Jukebox selection in this month's Wire magazine - hence her inclusion. The song is a Weill and Brecht number.
Dagmar Krause - Moritat (Ballade von Mackie Messer)
Kettel - Toen
Boards of Canada - Aquarius
Music: Aquarius - by Boards of Canada, from the album Music Has the Right to Children
Original Footage: CELEBRATION: I Am All of These - by Dorothy Fadiman and Robert Pacelli ©1983
Video Editing: David Dohrmann
Using a single short film as a source, I decided to create a psychedellic video using Boards of Canada as the soundscape. "Aquarius" might be the best introductory song to BoC, whom I consider one of the most important and influential musical acts of the new millennium. For this video, I wasn't as worried about beat syncopation or timing. I felt the initial footage allowed for more organic visuals. A major influence and inspiration was from the exhibit "West of Center" at the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art. Counterculture, psychedelics, and self-expression were major themes, and I was particularly influenced by the "psychedelic reel" that was playing. Enjoy the trip.
Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians (1978) "Pulses"
Philip Glass - Mad Rush
John Zorn and Naked City - Batman, The Sicilian Clan
Enjoy.
