Thinking about what people have said and blogged and in discusion with Steviecat, the seventies was a fertile ground for experimentation, even in the usual safe mainstream of pop.Think of "Son of My father" by Chicory Tip which lead Stephen towards electronic music, and hence the pioneers;novelty records like "Mouldy Old Dough",and the plain odd stuff.

Then you had the true vanguard of experimentation from Germany,Krautrock. Can were and still is the most influential band from this period, followed by Faust,Neu!,and Kraftwerk. Tangerine Dream petered out too soon after Phaedra and Stratosphere. Can apppeared quite alot in my Possible Top 101 albums list, and all their excellent albums have been remastered in SACD compatible hybrid CD's. Stick them in your DVD player and get superb sound quality, and just as good in standard hifi CD players. Great liner notes too.

Other pioneers of musical excellance are the great Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, and it looks like EMi are about to release remastered editions of his work whch came after Trout Mask Replica.Stuart Maconie featured "Bat Chain Puller" on his BBC Radio 6 programme.

The first two Roxy Music LP's were revelatory.Later in the decade David Bowie released the ultra-cool "Low" and "Heroes".

Some way cool jazz was made via Tribe Records,Black Jazz,Groove Merchant,Delmark and other independent labels.Reggae became more serious and Rasta dread, and dub was the chill out music to listen to at sound systems around the Rugby area when i was still lving up there.

So basically , it was a musically diverse period. So enough of this shoe gazing and lets go forward.
