Thor Ragnarok
Oct. 29th, 2017 04:39 pmI thoroughly enjoyed this movie overall. This time Thor has a sense of humour. It is there from the opening seconds, when we find our Norse hero dangling before some horrid demon , whose portentous monologue is undercut by Thor's continual interruptions, as he slowly spins around his chains. For a relative newcomer to Earth Thor has clearly the nack of 21st century comic timing.
This is a very entertaining, albeit not very deep , thrilling romp.Of course , Thor's family problems are at the root with this saga. His adoptive brother Loki is up to his usual tricks (naturally),on top of which they discover they have an elder sister, Hella , the Goddess of Death (payed by Cate Blanchett). Whilst she starts about tearing up Asgard , Thor and Loki find themselves on a planet than resembles classic eighties TV game shows hosted no less than by Jeff Goldblum. He makes a perfect narcissistic and malevolent game host. I also loved the couple of cameos ,both by Stan Lee, and by Benedict Cumberbach as Doctor Strange. We are also introduced to a Valkyrie warrior who drinks too much to rid herself of a very bad memory. We also see the Hulk in all his green skinned anger.
So , despite the many corners cut, with laws of physics bent out of all recognition, this film gets away with all of it because it is so unpretentiously funny.
