Well i made an intrepid look at the sales today. The town centre was fairly heaving especially in Churchill Square but Waterstones bookshop was okay - i used the book token voucher to get Richard Cook's "It's About That Time,Miles David On And Off The Record" (Atlantic Books) - infact I was in the shop for quite a long time deciding whether to buy this one,one on Bob Marley's "Exodus" by Vivian Goldman or the new Studs Turkel book.Actually i would like all three and probably end up with the other two at some point.
On the whole i do not enjoy the January Sales - well its not even January yet - but you know what i mean.
I did get the latest Carla Bozulich CD "Evangelista" (Constellation CD) where she is aided and abetted by members of Godspeed You Black Emperor and A Silver Mount Zion. Strange beautiful experimental improv country moving into visceral sonic assemblanges more akin to Current 93 or the latest Scott Walker ouvre.
Also, I popped into Snoopers to see how the vinyl LP's were going and some i have taken back for reselling up in London at my next visit, although one of them i will keep now by The Albion Country Band "Battle Of The Field" (Island LP 1976).
Well folk muisc in all its flavours is getting to me more often these days, what with compilations such as "Early Morning Hush" and "Anthems In Eden".It's a diverse lot really from Nick Drake,Albion Country Band,Maddy Prior,Shirley Collins,Alasdair Roberts and so on.
