Lionel Bart - May A Man Be Merry
Jan. 3rd, 2012 01:07 pm...isn't this where we came in? Lionel Bart Deram DML 1028, 1970
Lionel Bart, the late composer responsible for the Oliver musical (and many others), produced this sort of concept LP, sort of musical soundtrack on the cult Deram label with the help of a great lineup of some of the best library musicians from the KPM era. Madeline Bell, Danny Thompson, John Cameron and more feature on the album. The music is typically Brit musical in feel for most of the album, but there's a cracking loungecore funk tune with really big KPM-style beats (and a killer opening break) and good horn work on 'May a man be merry?'. Hard to find these days - check it out.
