Up in Newcastle over the bank holiday weekend DJing with fellow VG+ colleagues. Two nights in all,Friday at Jukebox,a club night which finish at 2am and then Tanners Oub from 4pm to midnight on the Saturday. Great music all the way,and apart from naff but free lager at Jukebox,Tanners had London Prde and Deuchars IPA on tap. Had quite a few of those that  day.

It was nice meeting people in the flesh rather than the interweb.Ian,Towney,Cellardweller,Simon Norfolk,Scriptflipper,Little Jimmy Oddman,Sie Vulture,Gumbo Ya Ya,LDJB, Mr Sayers (Craig) ,Boney Votel and D-Cee are all fine fellas. We had lots of laughs and a great love for music whether known or obscure.

Apologies for the poor outisde shot above but it was midnight then and only a puny phone camera, which i cleaned up as best as i could with photobucket.

Anyway this is the stuff i spun -

At Jukebox -

Eddi Jaobs Exchange - Pull My Coat (Jazzman)
Ramrods - Zig Zag (London)
, stonking titty shaker B side
Les Hombres - Let It Out(Verve Forecast)
Shady Daze - I'll make You Pay (Sundazed EP)
Ray Frazier and The Shaes Of Madness - Gonna Get Your Love(Chess)
Calico Wall - I'm A Living Sickness (Get Hip)
Dee Edwards - Why Can't There Be Love (GM)
Trini Lopez - Gonna Get Along Without You Now (Reprise)
Sha Na Na - You Can Bet They Do (Kama Sutra)

At Tannners -

Ella Fitzgerald - Sunny (Reprise) - nice funky version too.
Evie - Stop look and Listen (Word) - gospel funk
The Total Eclipse - In The Midnight Hour (Imperial) - organ groove thang
Petula Clarke - Bang Bang (Pye)
Bob Lind - Unlock The Door (Fontana) quite mellow and groovey though
Tini Lopez - Gonna get Along Without You Now (Reprise) one my favourites at the moment
Billy Larkin and The Delegates - Killer Joe (Fontana) another fine version of a great tune
Dennis Cofffey - Chicano (Sussex) - flute led funky jazz
Dionne Warwicke - You Can Have Him (Hallmark)
Blue Magoos - (We Aint Got) Nothing Yet Mercury)
Hollies - I Take What I Want (MFP)

Sha Na Na - You Can Bet they Do (Kama Sutra) another i just love so no apologies for playing it again
Jnr Walker - Groove Thang (Soul) sassy saxy funky soul

This is a fine Janis Ian LP when she was 15 and has a killer psych-folk track on it. Must find it myself, as it is on my wants lists..

Had such a great time and listening to some super grooves i have not heard of before. A true learning curve and i look forward to the next one.

Oh and thanks again Ian for sorting out that Bert Kaemfert "Now" LP as the copy i found in a chazzer had the wrong LP in it. Now i have seen the bloody album at chazzers everywhere down here in sunny brighton since you posted me your spare.
Sod's law innit?

Ian comes from Milton keynes and we were the only two southerners, the rest mostly up north like Sie Flytipper form Lancaster.

Newcastle is now firmly on the DJing map and next years Byker Groove shall be attended by me again (hopefully could pursuade L alkong too!)
