Last night i spun vinyl at a corporate party upstairs at the Quadrant pub. Under the asumption that is was all funk and soul as this was the brief from Dan,the landlord of the pub,i was suprised later on during the evning to get requests for (sick bag ready) The Sugarbabes,Elton John, Abba and Xmas songs, and requests for Rolling Stones,Van Morrison and Beatles plus hip hop and reggae |(none of which i took with me). However folks i do not do requests - i educate rather than pander to common requests - but i did play some old Motown and Stax stuff to get them dancing, plus not forgetting the odd Jmaes Brown number or tow or three. The louder the music the more they danced and got very drunk (well some did) and being annoying as well. I went to have a slash after putting a long 7 minute track on and found one well drunk manger guy behind the turntables trying to put on a 45 but not knowing how to use the deck. i soon scurried him off it, and put it the single on myself, not realising he put the worng side on, a ballad, which i soon faded out again, and put a track on from the other deck. It was then i thought this will be the first and last private party i do!
i still manged to get them dancing to less known and rare stuff from the crates,so all was not lost.
Anyway here is what i played (from what i can remember as i gave up writing down what i played when the barrage of requests started). In no particular order -
