Halcyon Days of Spring

I started another novel this morning, one of the World Book Night freebies, the 637 page Margaret Attwood book “The Blind Assassin”. It has been another glorious sunny day which allowed me to top up my bronzed torso. Also , as it is Good Friday, it is a bit of a non-day for me, being an atheist and someone who has no time for religion. So it was either watching TV , mostly crap, or read a book. I opted for the latter.

I am almost halfway through the novel and will take it to read on my journey back to Brighton tomorrow.
We had a lovely prawn salad for lunch. Tim ate inside watching the 20/20 cricket, and I was outside eating mine soaking up the sun.
Last evening we were chatting with Tim's neighbours, Zoe and Tracy, as Tim had got two bottles of that cheap Italian wine from Costcutters plus a bottle of cider for us to drink. I gave Zoe two of the WBN freebies, the Mark Haddon book and the “Agent Zigzag” book Tim was moaning that it was us , the TV license payers, that paid for that all night BBC 2 event back in March, but then he is often misguided, as the event was sponsored by the following -
BML, Clays, The CPI Group, Hachete, Kodak, Nielsen Bookscan, NPA, Penguin Books, Pentagram Designs, Quo Vadis ,TBS
with the following partners -
BBC2, The Booksellers Association, The Publishers Association, The Reading Agency
He hardly reads novels, and tends to read biographies of sports people or musicians. I must admit, until WBN night, I really didn’t consider reading novels again, except for that “Sophie's World” book. Now I am voraciously reading them along with all the philosophy, art, and history books I read.
At least Zoe is on my wavelength when it comes to books and the qualities and pleasure that a book gives you. (And talking of pleasures, I must get some weed for her).
I was sad to hear the news of the passing of Elizabeth Sladen this week, who was one of the Doctors companions, and had a spin off series “The Sarah Jane Adventures”. Even at 65 she was still beautiful. She will be a sadly missed actress.

And talking of the great Doctor, must watch the new one tomorrow at 6pm.
