Today I popped over to Deal to do a visit I could not fit in yesterday. This meant I did not leave Teynham till 4pm to get down to the Sussex coast but now I am in Seaford. Arrived about 9.30 pm.
I took my trusty old pipe plus the nose warmer one that my brother gave me, and although I left some tobacco behind I have enough in the tin for the weekend. The English novelist William Makepeace Thackeray once said “The pipe draws wisdom from the philosopher, and shuts up the foolish; it generates a style of conversation, contemplative, thoughtful, benevolent and unaffected.” With the aroma of a good cherry and vanilla twirl , and a book to read, it is time that can be spent most pleasurably.
The book that I am reading, and not far off finishing is “Last Shop Standing, Whatever Happened To Record Shops“ by Graham Jones. Absorbing and funny..
