Samuel Smith’s Brewery has been loading up its team of Shire horses with drinks and snacks to dispatch to residents.

A Yorkshire brewery running a drinks delivery service during lockdown is transporting beer, wine and cider to thirsty locals by Shire horse. While some UK pubs have been dropping off groceries and refreshments by car, van or bike, Samuel Smith’s Brewery, in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, is loading up its team of Shire horses with drinks and snacks to dispatch to residents in the area during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Established in 1758, Samuel Smith is Yorkshire’s oldest brewery and the business prides itself on selling “high-quality” beer made from natural ingredients. Among its longest-serving employees are its grey Shire horses, which are stabled behind a pub beside the brewery. Until recently, the animals were tasked with transporting casks in and around Tadcaster - now they are travelling door to door, delivering beer directly to locals.

Advertising the service online, the brewer wrote: “We have set up our Shire horse home delivery service for Tadcaster! Order cases of beer, cider, wine, snacks and even potatoes, and they will be delivered to your front door by our Shire horses.”

Customers can choose from a wide array of lagers, ales and ciders, with a case of 12 550ml bottles of organic lager costing £35.40, 12 355ml bottles of organic fruit beer priced at £30.60 and 12 550ml bottles of oatmeal stout going for £34.20.

A bit of a relaxing day. As the other aforementioned personage was going to watch the football (with Colin, a sad Liverpool fan) ,after working this morning ,we had both agreed on a scenario where he ate at work and i would poodle off somewhere for some lunch.

As it turned out to be ,I ended up at a Wetherspoons outlet having a fine pork roast Sunday lunch, which was supplemented by a delicious ale from the I Wantsum range.

It was fully satisfying, and i toddled off home  in a very relaxed state, having had a few beers at another alehouse that is known as The Elephant, in Faversham.

Last night three wise men stood at the sacred shrine to imbibing, held at the most holy sanctuary of the faithful, the Dover Castle Inn. Gold ,frankincense and myrrh was not available but Xmas ale, vino and a home made version of Baileys Irish Cream. Our congregation was joined by a little Hobbit, whose name was Steve, and was already sailing three sheets to the wind. We touched on the current topics of the day,and the prophecies of the second coming (that is local gossip and whom is doing who) and then departed into the night around one in the morning feeling a little bit wiser.

Golden nectar arrived in post this morning, a rare 12 year old malt whisky.

A couple of busy days whilst the weather has been glorious. All change tomorrow since it will be somewhat cooler. Back to the norm.

Today I popped over to Paddock Wood to visit a Punch Tavern pub called the John Blunt VC. Had a pint and a half of Bays Up and Under A fine quaffable ale.

This morning I received a book from my brother , “The Phantom At The Opera” by Gaston Leroux (Harper Perennial) , and yesterday the two Woody Allen films from Play, “Manhattan” and “Zelig”.

Still no sign of that BBT series 4 DVD.

I finished reading the John Le Carre novel, and well over halfway with the book on Montaigne as well.

Watched a couple of films on Wednesday night, “Sucker Punch” and “Shutter Island” , since we did not go for the usual Wednesday night session at the Dover Castle Inn.

Yesterday in a Wetherspoons I had a pint of Highgate Bee Zone (4.0 % ABV) as they still have their beer festival on. Also, a pint of the Caledonian Coffee Porter (4.3 % ABV)

Tomorrow I might pop over to Faversham as I am low on shag.

Today i met GC's short term tenant Stefan, a nice 25 year old IT consultant from Germany. We met in the Evenong Star pub just after i completed my online report to ESA on the Somerfield shop. We had a few beers as well. I had a pint of Dark Star Porter (5.5% ABV) followed by a German Bavarian beer (5.6 % ABV) since he comes from the Munich area, Meantime Special Bock (6.5 % ABV) and a half of a deadly Belgian ale caled Brigend (9.% ABV).  Mucho heaviness!!  He is into music, supports Bayern Munich (ahem!)  and a really likeable person.

Later him, GC,  and I will go to the Northern Lights to see Ville and Ally and i am DJing as well - so now i shall sort out some WICKED VINYL TUNES for my bag! Drop the bass!!
