I blame
stargazer60 for getting me to look at road bridges. Their Chesapeake Bay Bridge (which she mentioned in their post) is 28.32 KM long which makes it the ninth longest road bridge in the world.
Now I have been looking at others. The longest one in the USA is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge which is 38.62 km long. It is the longest continuous bridge over water. It is composed of two parallel bridges crossing Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana. The twin bridges consist of four lanes carrying traffic from New Orleans and Jefferson Parish to the residential communities of St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana.
And yes, there is a video to go with it. Anymore boring road bridge facts you want?
No bridge in the UK even makes the top twelve.
