I often listen and watch his videos when it comes to discerning what versions of classical works to go for if I was buying. I also find these posts by Hurwitz illuminating and fun. This is one that had in hoots of laughter along the way esp. the bisexual violin.

Music Chat: The Vibrato Monologues--Sexual Politics and Expressive String Timbre

This talk consists of my reading a paper that I presented at a meeting of the New York Chapter of the American Musicological Society. The title speaks for itself, but the issues raised are fascinating ones that you don't need to be a musicologist to understand or find relevant. In brief, why was it that in the late 19th century so many sources decry the use of vibrato when we know that everyone was using it frequently? Have a listen--it may surprise you!

Slept well last night.

Did some hoovering, washed some clothes in the communal washer and dryer units and chatted to some of the ladies here during a coffee break.

Mary was talking to Charlotte. Charlotte was born in India and was part of the Raj and her ancestry is part Dutch as well.

Jean came in as well. I thanked her for the floor lamp she gave me as well as the extra bedding stuff.

I was playing some of my music in the community room as they have a nice small Denon CD player with speakers. Mary commented on the first one I put on and said it was relaxing. I guess that the “Les revenants” soundtrack album by Mogwai is their most quietest album for this loud post rock band from Scotland.

One of the gals was sharing these alcoholic filled chocolates and gave me a Mexican one. Tasted like tequila in the middle of the bonbon.

Watched the latest Agents of SHIELD episode last night. Supergirl comes back this week after a month's hiatus.

Paid the recent electricity bill for the month online, £34,which is not bad for the cold month of March. Roll on summer i say.

Back to normal travel times tomorrow. Just got two visits , Hempstead Valley and here in Faversham - a pub and food covert shop - guess which one?

Then rest of the week a number of supermarkets to do, which is always a good way to get food in and being paid for it.
