This is for [livejournal.com profile] pigshitpoet as he was interested in my old DJ gigs,etc. This is from 2009!

Last night was the first gig of the new year at the Hampton Arms with Phil. We both played roughly two sets each with one young lady joining in with five very soulful singles,including Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" on white vinyl!

Oh and we statrted earlier , from 5pm , and finished at 9.30pm, to grab the earleir crowd before they all go home. A really good idea as it turned out to be the best Sunday so far with the punters digging the grooves.

Anyway,this is the two sets i played -

The Upsetters - Return of Django (Trojan LP)
Brothers Unlimited - Who's For The Young (Capitol LP)
Teena Marie - Portuguese Love (Gordy LP)

Discovering other peoples music choices can be fun. I have uoloaded all my bro's muisc on the mp3 player, and apart from great jazz by Bill Evans, and John Coltrane,there is a rather bland Pat Metheney album - well most of his is rather bland except for the one he did with Ornette Coleman. That was particular angular and now!

Then there are the surprises like Rihanna? Very down with the kids. Quite enjoying this "Unapologetic" album - high energy pop disco i guess.Not something you would see in the hallowed pages of the Wire magazine. Although her music is derived from genres Wire would have looked at years before it went mainstream.

He definiely should check out M.I.A !

Mind you i am into grime, dubstep and drum n' bass so there ya go!

Deleted some of course like Olly Mars and Michael Bolton {sniggers}

Nice selection of classicalthough.

Well,it turned out to be a good evening. Not so busy as last time as i ad finished early about 11.30 pm rather than midnight. So, basically, i played for five hours, of mostly Brazilian flavoured tunes and a bit of trance funk stuff.
