Bugger It!
Jan. 22nd, 2009 10:15 pmTuesday evening a trip down to the Brunswick on the coast road in Hove, corner of Holland Road, for a PRS visit. Live music by various folks in what is called an Open Mic session. Some of the artists were very good whilst others were merely so-so. At least the pub had Leffe on tap and i had a few of those that evening!
Belated salutations to Georgina (GC) ,whose birthday it was on Monday, and i totally forgot about it. Now i am in the dog house with her.Will have to make amends.
Lorna's birthday next Monday. She will be on the big 5-0, and already (today) her friends at work have toasted her reaching the fifthieth.She looks much younger than that,and none of her workmakes can believe she is this age!
Yesterday in London picked up some fime 12" singles from MVE in their basement for an incredible 5p each and some good soul singles for 50p each,plus "Jazz Soul Volume One" a compilation of BGP for £3. It certainly isn't a sellers market at the moment in this recession with prices paid for goods received in exchange being a lot less than it was the previous year.Still, i was glad to get rid of some crap for more decent slabs of vinyl.
You know it is a recession when you have been booked to a DJ set and it gets cancelled! This happened to me. Dan from the Quadrant phoned me to say he had to cancel my set for the 6th of February but keepiing the 21st one, as he cannot afford to pay me twice in a month for two nights! This will mean i have to concentrate on looking for other gigs ,as Dan seems to be a bit unreliable and disorganised and now that i have the PC back and connected to the turntables it is time for me to get busy. So i must put some time aside to do these mixes and covering letter for the Black Lion pub and Mrs Fitzherberts.Just hope i can secure a gig at these places.
