I went out for a walk after lunch as it was still a hot sunny day. Also, I  needed to walk off the spicy chilli burger with salad, followed by strawberries. I took the Canon compact with me and walked down towards Lynstead Lane.

I then tool a sharp left down Cambridge Lane towards Cellar Hill. On the way I found an old bath tub. I thought it was some found art, a ready-made, put there by Marcel Duchamp but there was no R.Mutt autograph.

I had to take a picture of this beautiful thatched cottage in Cellar Hill.

The last picture is of the Dover Castle Inn which my mate Phil use to run up to the end of January this year. It is now far from busy and is up for sale.

Tomorrow i shall be back in the office for the afternoon.

I was coming here to say the same thing.

I like pictures of the odd and decaying. Where was this, Dave? Was it just in a random field?

I am having problem with some keyboard keys , some keystrokes are not not responding hence the odd typo , as in "Field" and "down" in last comment. I have run out of a spray that cleans laptop keyboards and de-gunks them.As long as you got the gist in the last comment okay, but apologizes in advance, just in case. Note to self to visit computer shop tomorrow.

Over here, it is sometimes hard to find a place willing to take old scrap like a tub. So you get a new, micer tub put in and then have to look for a place to leave the old one. This leads to leaving it in the woods,IMHO.

That is partly true here. The local council will only rake such items away at a price!

I've seen people paint an old tub and fill it with soil and flowers.

I like that idea- painting an old bathtub and planting flowers in it.

That lane is not one way but it does have a passing point where it widens out for vehicles oncoming.

I like Cambridge Lane! The bathtub looks as though it could be an animal trough in a pasture if someone plugged up the drain hole.

That thatched cottage roof looks so neat.

I love the bathtub, too. Here, they used to be used for watering stock, but now people like to restore them and out them in their houses.

I hope that Dover Castle Inn becomes busy again.

I popped in there that day. It was quiet as the grave, with just one family having a meal. When Phil had it he would have had 100 tables done in a day, or more.

Farmers often used to use old bathtubs as drinking troughs. They were cheap, durable and can be cleaned out easily buy removing the plug to drain them.

And troughs of any variety can make great bunny playthings. ^_^ (Not a great shot, unfortunately - that was at the far end of the field, and with a less than stellar lens. But I loved the moment regardless =:)

I do recall seeing quite a few thatched houses while I lived in East Sussex, and ventured thereabouts. (Indeed, wasn't the Hungry Monk thatched? The banoffee pie was superb, but I was surprised to find them serve my rare steak well into medium)

Pubs are all about the landlord, needless to say. We lost a (very) local recently, which the council was perfectly happy about, declaring there were enough pubs anyway. It's now a Tesco (aka prime workfare supporter, along with Asda) Express. *sigh* Yet, no huge surprise - even aside from the huge handicap of being a tied pub, they never really offered any interesting beer selections - maybe a single local cask, but otherwise, all the same old crap. Still, it can go the other way - one pub in the center of town was a similarly generic establishment (unfortunate, as it's quite a local landmark of a building, known as the Flint Cottage), and now keeps 5-7 casks and a couple ciders going, plus dozens of interesting bottles. And surprise! They're always busy, or packed out at the weekends.

Was it? Regrettably, I only got there the one time, to take my mother out for dinner when she was visiting one time, so it was really the food I was focused on. Thereabouts, it was more Brighton I headed toward for great selection - the Northern Star sometimes, near the station, but for a full evening, more usually the Greys. Which closed a couple weeks after I moved back slightly nearer them, apparently becoming something of a deservedly unloved wine bar. Now the cycle's complete, with another change of ownership, leaving them sounding much like before - a real pub, with a cozy atmosphere and a good line in live acts - but with a Goan menu in this incarnation. =:D
