Last Wednesday unbeknownst to cousin or myself we had low pressure with the water due to a leak somewhere. . Water board found the source of the problem in the road ,nothing to do with us (big relief),  and we were all affected including the neighbours. Cousin puts on the washing machine that same day to do some clothes and it does not spin. He had to wash by hand. The water pressure came back on Tuesday when the water board fixed the problem.

He tried to use the washing machine yesterday, and again it would not spin and started to overheat. basically the  machine is fucked. So now a new washing is needed. I gave him Beko's freephone number and he rung them to confirm if the low water pressure was the cause, as both our neighbour's  machines  (at no. 48 and 50) had also packed up within days of each other.

Hopefully we hope to get some compensation from the water board, which could  take some time.  Beko told him to write a letter to the board explaining the situation and that he has spoken to the washing machine company and that the water board to contact Beko for confirmation. Beko said that , although not definite , they are 90 % certain it is low water pressure to be the cause of the problem.

He wants me to look at Currys online to find a washing machine, as Tracy and Zoe next door have one that is half the price of the Beko. (His laptop is not working).

Jeez, what else can go wrong?

I had no idea low water pressure could do that to a washing machine. Did it make the parts go inside and work so hard, without actually turning, that it burned the parts up???

"Never rains, but it pours" was my father's expression when multiple disasters piled up. At least it's only machines and machines can be fixed/replaced.

When I was about 11 yrs. old, my Mom was in the hospital after having an emergency gall bladder operation. My oldest brother was in ANOTHER hospital for an emergency appendectomy. My Dad was out visiting both of them when we had to call him to tell him that second oldest brother had tried to light the gas oven and had a minor explosion (a POP, really) that had singed his eyebrows and left him dazed!!

I'm glad it looks like the water board will be giving compensation.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That sure sounds like the water pressure issues were the cause of all the washers going bad. :o I sure hope you get compensated. :o

Good luck with that, though like QuirkyTizzy I don't see how low pressure could damage a washing machine. Two years ago this very month we had lightning strike a tree behind our house: the pulse blew up our TV, washing machine, damaged my laptop forcing a replacement (27" iMac!), but the real problem was the 25' chunk of pine blown through our roof, which came close to killing my wife. Then we were out of town for two weeks, just got back two weeks ago, and a similar pulse blew out all of my internet gear and our satellite receiver, also partially fried our DVR. Fortunately I'd shut-down my iMac and turned off its UPS.

We get low water pressure frequently as the village goes around doing repairs or testing fire hydrants, I guess our washing machines have safety valves or something to prevent damage like that.

you have gained notice of the Ghods, you will now find out.

.. good call on trying to get the water company to replace the washing machine. Fingers crossed for you.

Hm! Like others, I'm puzzled how the pressure could have such an effect - I'd've thought that would just mean the machine would take longer to fill up, assuming the machine works on some kind of level sensor or flow measurement, rather than simple timing. (Even then, I'm wondering what the harm would be in spinning a dry drum)
