I took the camera with me in Sittingbourne on the off chance i might need it. Glad i did.

Some ladies were coming down the road whilst i was waiting for a bus back home handing out leaftets in relation with a community project to do with diversity. They were dressed in very colourful African costumes.EWell i presume they were as my fashion sense is zilch.

I don't know whether they're authentic African outfits or "what people of African ancestry who aren't living in Africa think is African", but I see women dressed like that in Detroit, at least during festivals.

A couple of years ago a local museum had an exhibit on "the hat tradition" in the African American community. I'd never considered before that the tradition of wearing flamboyant hats, and some of the hat styles, developed from traditional African headgear.
