Watched four episodes of Season 2 "Arrow " last night as i think we now have a third season that has just started on Sky, so i need to catch up with the previous season first. Darker than the Flash but both series from the DC comics characters make  enjoyableand  watchable good telly.

Been talking to my geeky colleague again. Today we discussed the evolution of stars, how the solar system was formed, causality and the arrow of time, and the plausibility of life elsewhere in the universe. It makes a change talking to somebody who shares similar interests. I wonder if he is into philosophy?

Came across this on FB and thought you might be interested!

It’s 40 years since the first Northern Soul ‘all-nighter’ was held at Wigan Casino in the north of England – an event that sparked the beginning of late night dance culture in Britain.

The underground movement exploded across the UK in the mid-1970s, fighting against the mainstream fashions and popular chart music of the day. Young people travelled for hundreds of miles to dance to obscure ‘60s and ‘70s black American soul records in the North’s former music halls and ballrooms.

In The Culture Show – Keeping the Faith, journalist Paul Mason travels back in time to revisit the dancefloors of his youth. He interviews passionate Northern Soul pioneers and fans – many of whom still attend dances − in order to get to the heart of the “musical religion that refused to die”.

That book is on my wants list and i use to be a regular Northern Soul weekend tripper in the early 70's often going to Manchester, Wigan, Blackpool and Birmingham plus the Twisted Wheel which was my favourite as it had a great atmosphere and easier to get im without waiting outside too long, followed by The Torch club in Stoke or as we use to call the area The Potteries.

Pretty interesting! My teen years were in the late 50's, early 60's (I married at 20 in 1964). From age 13 to 20 it was rock and roll ; Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, etc. and we danced in local places; there were several churches who organized dances for their young members, and raised money for the church with a small entrance fee and the sale of (non-alcoholic) drinks and homemade cookies, brownies, etc. This was in Boston.

I'm glad you have found a workmate you can discuss such matter with. It would be good of he knew all about philosophy, too!
