This damn fucking government is trying to Alter the very fabric of our most dearly beloved Auntie Beeb.

"The government is in danger of “dismantling the BBC’s civic value and destroying its economic value, which makes it even more important to involve the British public, especially as they haven’t had a chance before” to become involved."

Mind you , there are some programmes they could easily drop , such as The Voice, Strictly Come Dancing, the Bake Off programmes, and other such fluff.

Here is Graham Norton's view -

Oh no, the bake off is central to our culture. They could do without 'Snog, Marry, Avoid'.

And the whole of BBC3 can go.

What the heck is happening over there, my gawd! I am so sorry. I do hope the BBC survives, I too watch it every night. Sighhh.
Hang in there.

I was kind of kidding about the bake off show. What could be endangered is the top quality drama they produce, as in Doctor Who, Jonathan Strange and Mr.Norrell, Ashes To Ashes, Spooks, Being Human for example.

I caught one of the bake off shows for the first time a few months back. It was really fun, and sure put my baking to shame. :o

The Canadian Conservative Government has had it in for CBC ever since they got into office. They have gutted it financially. They have tried to silence it. They've effectively emasculated it especially its ability to provide regional coverage. The comedy shows continue to deal mercilessly with the government but ... how can you parody something that is already a parody of itself?

I like Graham Norton, but he's missing the point - personally, I love the BBC and would happily subscribe to it, but people should still get the choice of WHAT they watch, and how.

I just read the Graham Norton piece and I agree with him, it seems to me that BBC is an excellent value. My two "go-to" news source apps on my iPhone are USA's National Public Radio and the BBC app.

But the poll that he's running is currently 49% yes and 51% no, so it looks to be a heavily divisive issue.

Ye gods...

I'm not liking the idea of controlling what the public sees and doesn't see. The propaganda via programming is bad enough. Deciding what the audience will and SHOULD watch is slightly more dangerous. I'm not fond of the dumbing down of our current society, but I'm less fond of choice-removal.
