Summer Schools

Having just watched University Challenge , i really wanted Reading University to win but they were up against a strong team in Imperial College. The reason for me wanting Reading to win in this heat was due to the fact that i spent a consecutive four years of summer school weeks whilst doing Open University courses way back in the late seventies to early eighties, when i took both the Science and Mathematics Foundation Courses, a second level Pure mathematics course, and second level physics course.

Later on when i did some arts couches the summer schools were at UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology).

The best part of these summer schools was the evenings spent in the student campus bars drinking beer with like-minded people. Halcyon days indeed.

I went back to college nights to finish my degree (I was in my 40's). A group of other 'older' students and I used to meet in the "caf" for 'supper' (usually a burger and something to drink). No alcohol served, though. I enjoyed it!!

I would pass on the beer, but it sounds like a great time. :)
