Recent Trips
Dec. 9th, 2005 10:19 pmHad a few busy days since last weekend. First of all today, whilst doing a job in Wimbledon,i perused the various charity shops and from the Heart foundation charity shop i found a copy of Peggy lee's "Fever" 7" single (Capitol) in nice clean condition for £2 and by the looks of it an original 45 from the period.
Thursday i visited Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire (10 miles from Stanstead Airport) for a survey at Tescos and finsihed 3.30 pm after a six hour shift and so wandered into the town centre (the first time i have been there) but found no quality records in either the standard record shops nor the charity shops. The town itself feels like you have gone back in time as it's a quaint market town with narrow streets and old sixteenth century buildings. However as a place for unusual non-mainstream records it was dire!
Wednesday on a train job for First Great Western i happened to be in Reading - yeah, i do get about a bit. A large town with a good shoping area and a couple of independent record dealers i have used before and again not disappointed by either of them.Found 4 great Cd's in total and one heavy duty 7" single.
Hafler Trio "No Man Put Asunder" (Die Stadt CD 2004) for £6
Rachel's "The Sea And The Bells" (Quarterstick 1996) for £4
Eugene Chadbourne "Old Time Banjo" (Relax Ay Voo Records 2003) for £4
George Haslam "Duets East And West" (slam CD 1998) for £3
Ian Helliwell "Transitions 4" 7" EP (lefta records 2001)for £2
Yes, the last one by Brighton's own curator of the unusual and weird inf ilmic things and such.
Finally got round to getting the latest Supersilent recording on Rune Grammofon simply called Supersilent 7 (from the nice people at Resident) and done as a DVD in typical minimalist graphic mode the label is known for.Grey has never been so cool.
Had a free pint from the Evening Standard via a token in the paper which you could exchange at selected Shephard Neame pubs this evening and as i was in London today i took advantage of it.I supped my free pint of beer in the Cask and Glass pub near Victoria Station The reason for this is the World Cup draw and to see who England have got in their group.A free pint of "Spitfire" always tastes better than buying one yourself.
