Books To Go
Jun. 11th, 2006 07:23 amBeen pricing up the books for the stall this morning. Just keeping two paperbacks from the haul. D.M. Thomas "The White Hotel" (Phoenix) and Umberto Eco "Apocalypse Postponed" (Flamingo),a selection of his writings on culture, arts and other things.
Picked up a leaflet of a free film festival down at The Friends Meeting House called Critical Positions 2. Runs from 16th June to 22nd June and all films are free entrance - it's been supported by the Arts Council, and the Lux Cinema.

One of the CD's i picked up for 50p is a compilation and worth its cheap cheap price alone for the two tracks by Fred Anderson Quartet and Kahlil El'Zabar and The Ritual Trio, both free jazz groups. The rest is mainstream and okay i guess. I will just rip the two tracks i like and then put the Cd on the stall or sell it or exchange it elsewhere, perhaps Rays Jazz Shop next time in London together with the Louis Sclavis ones.
The other 50p bargain which i am keeping is Dana Bryant's "Wishing From The Top" (WEA 1996) a soul rap CD from 1996 which THE WIRE reveiwed, and gave it a thumbs up. It's gorgious. You could call her the black female version on Laurie Anderson - spoken words angainst a funky backbeat. Yummy!
Phew - gonna be hot again.
