Willaim Lawes and Fretwork
Oct. 6th, 2006 08:41 amAh,raining again and it looks as settled as yesrterday too. Fat chance doing a street survey in Hove today. I might still go to Hove to see Julian at Fine Records. have some stuff to part-exchange and see what stuff he has by Fretwork who do both contemporary and renaissance music. Currently playing, as i write, William Lawes "Consort Sett a 6 in F major" (Virgin Veritas 0777 75902129) a CD from 1991 and may be deleted by now.
This is a fine album of quality music from our English heritage.
Shocked to hear that tosser Sting has done a John Dowland lute album. Haven't ageing rock stars got anything better to do than murder such classic English tunes by Dowland et all What is your take on ageing rockers going classical, such as Paul McCartney or Elvis Costello.? Having said that i do like Costello's "The Juliet Letters" as they are all his own work.
Anyway i shall now listen to my William Lawes CD again - haven't played for a very long time.
Paul Munson (if you are reading this) you are right - "Insanely eclectic taste" in music.I agree, mia culpa.
