Kitsch

Some years when i did alot ore vinyl record hunting than i do now i came across an LP by Dick Hyman and it caught my eye by the strange sleeve and title "The Age Of Electronicus" , and it amused me, so i had to buy it. It was about two quid at this boot fair.

Well, i wasn't disappointed, it is funny and  kitsch in equal measure , and the strangest track is the version of "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose" , and anytime i feel depressed or need to smile, i dig it out and play this one track. so without further ado, have your musical sensibilities assaulted.

I shall follow it with something less perverse, but still strange. The excellent Kraftwerk have made many a good album in the electronic genre and from the album which contained the hit "The Model" is this track , "The Robots"

Enjoy.

As last night i only watched Fifteen To One on Channel 4 i still lots to catch-up on TV, and in particular Marvel's Agents of Shield . I was travelling around the websphere (non LJ sites) and i heard a rumour that Heroes is being revamped and then again i came across this on YouTube  ----

I really hope it does come back because the end of Season 4 was left open -  fingers crossed.

After my breakfast ,and doing the usual chores of a wash and a wet shave, I splashed on some after shave lotion (not Brut though or Old Spice, but one from Armani) and this tune popped into my cranial crevices and stayed there well after the event. So with judicious humming i shall share the track with you. from Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" .- O Fortuna.

This clip has paintings of  J.M.W.Turner as well. . Enjoy, and may you have good fortune today.

Whilst in Faversham today, apart from a strong ale at the Wetherspoons pub, I found some vinyl going real cheap at various charity shops including one i was going to pay twenty pence for but the lady gave it to me free. From the Cancer Research shop picked up a Frank Sinatra collection for the enemous sum of 26 pence.

From this top notch selection i have chosen "Witchcraft"

Then from Your Local Charity Shop (I Know, such an original name for a shop) this was the LP i did not have to pay for - it would have only cost twenty pence anyway.

The LP was a privately pressed a;bum by Terry Allen in 1975, which was reissued by fate Records in 1984 ,.It is called "Juarez" and is selling over ten quid a pop on Discogs so i have pitched it at a tenner to sell. I feel guilty now but then at the time she nor i knew that this is a lost unknown American classic that Sugarhill Records also reissued. Yes, Sugarhill, betterr known for its early rap and hip hop music.

juarez

Not the most interesting LP cover as it is all black with white lettering but from it i have selected the following track - Cortez Sail.

From Ashford town centre in another charity shop, after i did my mystery shop,, i found these two albums for 25 pence each -

The track i have selected , and pertinent to the discussion from my meme about maths being the downfall of most of us in our formative years, I have chosen New Math.

The other LP  is by Kathleen Ferrier and has a track that Jocelyn Pook sampled on one of her albums, and thus i have selected the original - Blow The Wind Southerly.

Oh , and here is the Jocelyn Pook re-jig which she has mashed it up with "Pie Jesu"..

So rather a mixed bag that cost less than a pound.  Enjoy the clips.

I did not get to Herne Bay as i had ran out f time , so that shall be rectified in the week ahead.

In Faversham one of the charity shops had a trestle table outside with a big sign at the back of it, saying "Manager's Special - Books 10 Pence each" . That was the worm that reeled me in, and i picked up four books at that silly price.

I had a pint of Klosterbrauerei Scheyern Klosterbock (6.5 % ABV) at the leading Light pub. In Ashford at the County Hotel i had a pint of RCH Chocolate Slug Porter (5.0 % ABV).

A  satisfactory day esp. getting the Terry Allen LP for nowt.
