Courtney Summers "Some Girls Are" (St. Martin;s Griffin)

What a great novel, and for me, was not the sort of book i would normally read

Some Girls Are… tackles the subject of bullying in a girls world. What makes this story unique is who the main heroine is. She is a popular girl who has ruined the lives of others and gets a brutal taste of her own medicine. Sounds like the type of person you would hate and definitely not root for in a story. Well, that’s what’s brilliant about this book, not only does Courtney Summers make you care about the girl, you also want those other students persecuting her to meet evil fates. In essence, the reader gets so caught up in the story, you feel like a victim too, wanting the heroine to dish out terrible reprisals on those she sees as “wrong”. Yet, both sides get hurt and everyone loses to some extent.

The story is hard to read because it is so wonderfully honest and raw. But the book rewards you if you can hang in there through the brutal punches.

When it comes to bullying, girls can be just as vicious as guys.

No more scuppering of plans. Going by bus today down towards the fair town of Tunbridge Wells in which i have a few visits including a charity shop , a Pret cafe, a shop and time to visit Halls Bookshop. Yay!

Might even visit a Wetherspoons pub for a steak club day meal.

Just finished the last of three reports from the visits i completed in Tunbridge Wells. It feels as though it has been a long day. Well it was, as i made the best of a glorious sunny day that incrementally got warmer towards the afternoon. I can now relax, and as i write, i am listening to one of my latest acquisitions , a CD by The Flaming Lips and their album "At War With The Mystics". It is totally gorgeous, and i really am getting into this band. As quoted in an earlier post , may years ago i had their "Clouds Taste Metallic" album, but within the last few months i seem to be finding their oeuvre in charity shops. But i digress.

My first stop was at the Sue Ryder chazzer where i picked this Cd up, plus two other CD's , a DVD and a book , all for five pounds.

I the did the Pret cafe visit and purchased the speciality filter coffee of the day with a chicken and avocado sandwich.

I then walked down the High Street towards Halls Bookshop, only to find it closed and empty, but a sign did say the place was being refurbished and opening up again in the summer. Disappointed, but at least they will be back. I then took another couple of snap of the lovely High Street, one walking  down the hill and one walking back up.

I then took a detour to High Brooms , a suburb of the town, to do my motorcycle retailer  mystery shop.

I had to pretend to be interested in buying a bike and get a finance quotation. Afterwards, i nipped on the bus back to central Tunbridge Wells and enjoyed a few ales, first at The Bedford and then The Opera House.

A pint of Dark Star at The Bedford and from the Opera House a pint of The Beer House Raspberry Rose (4.2 % ABV), and yes, it has the floral nose and a slight hint of raspberries in the beer,

I then caught the bus back to Maidstone, and as it approached the county town of Kent i realized i had missed out a visit to a shop inside the main shopping mall. However, i need not have panicked too much, as i still can do as the last day to complete it is Sunday. (Phew!)

The other CD's are -
Various Artists - Beginners Guide To Africa (Nascente 3 CD set)
Dimitri From Paris - Sacrebleu (Yellow)

The DVD is a film version of the Zoe Heller novel "Notes From A Scandal" and the book is The Arden Shakespeare Romeo And Juliet.

The Dmitri CD is now being listened to, a cool French jazz groove, and thus sound clips will be put on later.
