Since i bought some more CD's today here is a nice classical piece by Elvis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet doing the song I Almost Had A Weakness.

This is part of the Juliet Letters album.  I saw Elvis and the quartet do this live at a concert in 1993 in Brighton.

Enjoy

From the Andreas Scholl album i have chosen the track I Am A Poor Wayfaring Stranger.

It is a beautiful rendition of this traditional folk song by Andreas Scholl with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

Enjoy.

From the soundtrack to Once Upon A Time In America is the title theme  track from one of my favourite film composers Ennio Morricone.

Enjoy. Good night.

I have been enjoying the small poetry book by Roger McGough , and with humorous short poems , made me smile and grin whilst on my travels the other day.

Here is one of the shortest ones.

Last Wednesday unbeknownst to cousin or myself we had low pressure with the water due to a leak somewhere. . Water board found the source of the problem in the road ,nothing to do with us (big relief),  and we were all affected including the neighbours. Cousin puts on the washing machine that same day to do some clothes and it does not spin. He had to wash by hand. The water pressure came back on Tuesday when the water board fixed the problem.

He tried to use the washing machine yesterday, and again it would not spin and started to overheat. basically the  machine is fucked. So now a new washing is needed. I gave him Beko's freephone number and he rung them to confirm if the low water pressure was the cause, as both our neighbour's  machines  (at no. 48 and 50) had also packed up within days of each other.

Hopefully we hope to get some compensation from the water board, which could  take some time.  Beko told him to write a letter to the board explaining the situation and that he has spoken to the washing machine company and that the water board to contact Beko for confirmation. Beko said that , although not definite , they are 90 % certain it is low water pressure to be the cause of the problem.

He wants me to look at Currys online to find a washing machine, as Tracy and Zoe next door have one that is half the price of the Beko. (His laptop is not working).

Jeez, what else can go wrong?

After a morning spent in the Office the afternoon has mostly been spent listening to some jazz albums from my recent finds such as the Mal Waldron and Kenny Burrell CD's. I followed this with the Wallace Roney album. Then i played this other album found yesterday. It blew me way. Terje Rypdal's Undisonus / Inoe for Choir and Chamber Orchestra.

For your pleasure, stop what you are doing and listen to Ineo.

Quiescent sublime contemplative music . Enjoy.

(Note - it is 18 mins long not 25 in the clip)

I found a poetry book in a charity shop in Deal on Thursday, not the one i mystery shopped, and just checked the price on Amazon. I bought this for 50 pence. Checked said book on Amazon and the paperback is being sold at £30.

The book?
Tony Harrison - The Loiners (London Magazine Editions 1974)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Loiners-Tony-Harrison/dp/B00L87Y8M0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406927986&sr=8-2&keywords=tony+harrison+the+loiners.

I do seem to pick them.

Tony Harrison was one of the poets i studied many years ago on an O.U. Arts Foundation Course.

Discoveries

That Terje Rypdal CD was a revelation and only a quid from Barnados in Deal. Brother is as sick as a parrot because now he has listened to it he had to download a copy from iTunes for £8.99. LOL! !

I have known of Terje before, but more in the jazz and rock vein , but not classical, and in this genre he is already up to Opus 48. It was way back in 1992 that Wire magazine got me into the jazz world of this Norwegian musician.

Another discovery is the folk song collection by Andreas Scholl ,"Wayfaring Strangers". Now i do realize some people are not keen on a trained countertenor voice doing folk songs and that folk songs are rough hewn from the working people of the lands. In many ways it is an acquired taste (like marmite) and yet i am fascinated by this album, which has yet another version of She Moves Through The Fair.

An album to savour.

So back to more folk songs. Here is Andreas Scholl doing Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Hair.

And here is Anne Briggs with Bert Jansch doing Go Your Way My Love.

Smooth or rough hewn?
Enjoy.
