Test

Last week whilst at the Office i took part in a 70 question personality test. The results were quite illuminating.

Linguistic 34
Spatial - Visual 30
Musical 29
Logical - Maths 28
Intrapersonal 25
Interpersonal 24
Bodily - Kinesthetic 18

Somehow, i guessed, a priori, that the linguistic would come up first, despite my terrible tying habit, and not noticing the typo till much later.

To answer some of th comments - There was seventy questions each with an agree somewhat or agree definitely and their opposites with no middle ground, with a number assigned to each from one to four. A potential total of 280, but as to how these figures work out, i am somewhat bemused. I did each question and gave a number between 1 and 4 for each, and the tutor totted them up. They did say that the higher a score was the better that attribute is for certain jobs, i.e a librarian.

Trundling

Precipitation was the order of the day this morning but it has now brightened up,with a lambent ray of sunshine as i peer from the library window.

I trundled off to Sheerness this morning to do a five week period of Gift Aid Projects. That is , give a donation to see if it generates a staff member to say something like "Would you like to Gift Aid your donation" . By dong so, these charities gain a tax rebate on donations sold.

The afternoon will be spent in the Office for awhile and then over to Faversham.

Meanwhile , here is my brother's take on the Beer Festival.

Peter Barry "Beginning Theory: An Introduction to Literary and Cultural Theory" (Manchester University Press)

Beginning Theory offers the literary studies student a fantastic primer to help navigate the often convoluted and complex domain of literary theory. Barry shows us that theory need not be daunting, and successfully manages to convey difficult concepts in a voice that is consistently conversational, and never dry. I appreciated his occasional interjection of self for the way in which it humanised the text. The book covers all the major theoretical approaches from Structuralism, through Psychoanalytic, Marxist, and feminist criticism, as well as newer areas such as Ecocriticism. Barry weaves the theoretical positions of each, within a historical framework. Since all theory arises out of distinct social, cultural and political processes, the historical backdrop provides an additional anchor for learning.

Although this is marketed as a beginner's guide, the breadth of coverage, and expert condensing of detail, makes it a must for any student of literary or cultural studies. I've revisited it again and again during my Masters, and it's now an invaluable addition to my study shelf.

Well it did turn out sunny but now seems that it going back to the inclement weather this morning. It eems to match my mood as well. That charge i had originally rescinded whilst my bank did an investigation, and after sending out a letter to state my claim was not upheld, has taken out the money again. The whacking £68. Now i did contact the financial ombudsman and received a questionnaire which I filled in and returned to them. Last week I received a letter from them stating that it is an on-going investigation and due to a backlog will be seen in due process.

Fair enough, I know that many people have had similar problems, but despite my efforts in moving back the payment a further four weeks, my bank said that they could not and duly debited my account. Luckily I had enough to cover it but now i am, until next Wednesday ( in just over a week’s time) I, short of money.

Thank goodness for the brilliant weekend, and in particular the Saturday, because the next week will be a rather dreary melancholic time.

Last night i watched episodes from Season 2 of Farscape and will watch the other two tonight. Escape into fantasy. The DVD set only cost me fifty pence. I shall put on Ebay once watched
.

Soon i will be watching University Challenge and then Only Connect, and afterwards i think i will put on the DVD of Farscape, and perhaps Enigma or watch some Futurama on another box set.

I popped over to Faversham to get 5 oz. of my favourite pipe tobacco and get some food for dinner. We had Ginsters peppered steaks with peas, chips from the chip shop diagonally opposite, and some thick Bisto gravy all over it. Cheap and delicious.

Tomorrow off to Faversham again to sell some books.

I watched the two quizzes , University Challenge and Only Connect and then watched New Tricks.  I got all the pop questions correct on University Challenge and surprised myself with the connection of Love (War) leading to the Ministry of Truth as they are ministries in George Orwell's 1984, and getting both walls on the middle section on Only Correct absolutely correct, except for the aircraft carriers.

On a different note, I may have to move some visits forward to the end of next week or cancel them, although usually the companies I work for are, in general, accommodating.

Interesting series starting next week on the BBC about the Gothic novel. Must remember to record it.

Over the weekend staying with GC, she asked me what was the difference  between bear and bare. I replied that the latter is to do with something exposed, like being naked, and that the former for anything else including the mammal. I said that they were homophones. She has not heard of this linguistic term,  and made a joke about it.  As you may or may not know,  homophones are words that sound alike but with different meanings and spellings. There is also a website dedicated to them.

That is all for now. DVD watching time.
