Hi guys. Been a busy morning of vacuuming, dusting and other chores, then watching four episodes of Charmed from the seventh season. The morning went by very quickly. Then lunch having eggs on toast with a ham rye baguette.

And all that dust in the morning has made me sneeze alot!

Anyway,i shall be catching up with comments before i do anything else.

Well, having heard another fine piece of music from RVW in a reply to me by [livejournal.com profile] cmcmck here is that wonderful piece of music. Unbeknownst to me util now.

Ralph Vaughan Williams: Music for Maeterlinck's symbolist drama, "The Death of Tintagiles"

A synopsis of Maeterlinck's play:

The Queen, who possesses complete control over her servants and people, has killed most of Tintagiles family. Ygraine and Bellangère try to protect him, but he is captured by the Queen's servants and brought to her castle. Ygraine pursues them to the castle door. Tintagiles cries for help from behind the door, but Ygraine is unable to open it and he is murdered by the Queen.

Mark Rowlands "The Philosopher At The End Of The Universe" (Ebury Press)

This book had a good premise but in the end i found it disappointing.

The main reason is that in my humble estimation not all of the film/theory pairings work well. I get the impression that this would make a fun lecture series for an "introduction to philosophy for a humanities class, where there's a back-and-forth dialogue between the professor and his students. Perhaps that is how this book was formed. Perhaps it is not rigorous enough for my liking, the meat is there but straggly, a morsel that does not satisfy the intellectual palette, and hence, not as stimulating. . After reading Hegel, Adorno, Derrida, Sartre, Foucault, Marcuse et all , this lacks the flavour i seek. Even the two Buffy studies i have read have more philosophical juiciness than this paperback.

So, in the final analysis, a somewhat interesting and occasionally entertaining look at modern philosophy, but overall it wasn't the greatest read. If you do come across this book then i would say do not dismiss it out of hand, as there are some good points in it, but do not expect it to as revelatory  as some of the philosophy books i have read on pop culture.
